Press Release: Metascreen, A Guard Against 'Sudden Death'

     Nearly one baby every hour each day dies abruptly. An estimated 7,000 babies die each year without warning.[i]

     Parents are left clueless after the death as the possible causes remain unknown even after undergoing autopsy. All because of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). 

     SIDS is the unexplained death of babies usually occurring during sleep and striking under unexpected circumstances. 

     Even a healthy one-year old baby may be a victim of the condition which is often simply attributed to physical and environmental factors.

     Studies have shown that babies with physical conditions including brain abnormalities, low birth weight and respiratory infection have higher risk of dying an unexplained death. 

     Still some studies indicated that an infant’s sleeping position may also be a cause. Babies sleeping on their stomach side are more prone as they may suffer more difficulty in breathing. Those sleeping on soft surfaces and with their parents are also at risk. [ii]

     Global fashion sensation Jessica Minh Anh was first introduced to the Big Apple in June 2014, when she famously transformed One World Trade Center into the world’s newest catwalk 6 months before it was officially open to the public. After marking another milestone in the fashion world on the iconic Eiffel Tower at the end of last year, the model and entrepreneur will return to New York to produce J Spring Fashion Show 2015 on the Hudson River.

     With a vision that goes beyond imagination, Jessica Minh Anh will turn the river’s giant glass boat into a unique floating catwalk on 19 March 2015. Guests will be seated facing the multi-facetted glass window while the boat is cruising to watch models walking in front of them as if they were walking on water. Thanks to a 360-degree view from the boat, New York famous skyline and architectural masterpieces such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and Brooklyn Bridge will become the natural backdrop for the phenomenal catwalk.      A fairy tale musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, Into The Woods will be presented in Manila in the garden amphitheater known as Kasalikasan, a tree-lined “living art piece” in the heart of BGC. It is one of the few instances of a venue providing the main inspiration for a show. “When we did Forbidden Broadway in Kasalikasan in May 2014, it was a huge success,” explains Joel Trinidad, Upstart founder and director of the piece. “So we started thinking about what other shows we could do here to really take advantage of this beautiful space.” The idea for Into The Woods came almost immediately. “We’ve always loved the musical,” shares Upstart Managing Director Onyl Torres, who does double duty as Vocal Coach for the present production. “So why not do it in the actual woods?”

     One other way that this particular production will be unique is in its use of celebrity guests. “We’ll have a different one for each of the eight performances,” shares Torres. “But we won’t tell audiences who is performing when—it’ll be a surprise.” It is a strategy that Upstart has used before and is happy to use again. “When we did it for Forbidden Broadway, no one had ever done it before,” explains Trinidad. “Now, other theatre companies are doing the same thing!” 

     But after countless actors, countless directors, and countless productions all over the world—including an upcoming Disney movie—does the musical have any surprises left for Manila audiences? Trinidad believes so. “There’s always something new to discover, something new to share,” explains Trinidad. “The material is just that good.”

Neuroblastoma, on the other hand, causes the sufferer to lose the ability to empty the bladder, experience paralysis of the hips, feet, legs and uncontrolled movement.

     Research into the use of cord blood and cord lining stem cells have been ongoing since the 1980s and has shown promise of saving lives and treating life-threatening diseases.
