The Practical Guide to Dressing for a Festival

Monday, August 10, 2015

Festival season is well underway, and this summer is seeing many of us heading off to our very first festival event. And there’s definitely enough choice in the shops when it comes to our fashion choices, from dainty crop tops to patterned playsuits, deciding what to wear can be quite a task! But, what are the real essentials, and what’s going to be a practical choice whilst still looking bang on trend for festival fashion? Read on to find out what’s best to – and not to – wear if you’re planning on going to a festival this summer.
Playsuits Aren’t Practical

Although the majority of us are sure to want to copy the style of Vanessa Hudgens who looked amazing in a pretty little playsuit at Coachella, the truth is, playsuits are definitely not the most practical of outfits to wear for a festival. If it gets chilly and you need to use the portaloo, the last thing that you’re going to want to do is get undressed in that small amount of space.
The Practical Guide to Dressing for a Festival
Dresses are a lot more practical at a festival if you’re looking for something just as cute as a playsuit. Choose a light, flowy dress with a trendy print – geometrical, floral and animal prints are all massive trends for this summer that will look fabulous, whatever festival you’re planning to attend.
Flared Trousers

Another fashion comeback that’s a huge trend this summer are flared trousers. However, if you’re thinking of wearing a pair of these to a festival, they’re not the most practical of choices – by day three when there’s no grass in sight and everything’s turned to mud, they’ll be your worst enemy as they drag along the floor and get you covered in mud. Plus, if you’re wearing wellies, are they going to look good together?

Denim Shorts

You can’t get more practical at a festival than a simple pair of denim shorts. Paired with a floaty blouse, crop top, vest top and a pair of wellies – there really is nothing that basic denim shorts won’t go with. If you’re worried about feeling the cold, you could even take a pair of plain black leggings or tights to wear underneath, and you still won’t ruin your look. Yes, we’ve decided that when it comes to practical, fashionable festival wear, denim shorts are your best friend. Available to buy from almost anywhere, you really can’t go wrong!

Footwear

Although you might want to pull out your favorite sandals especially if the weather’s forecast to be good, the most practical footwear that you can choose for a festival is a pair of wellies. After a couple of days even in dry weather the amount of people are sure to churn up some mud and muck, and the last thing you want to be doing is walking around getting your feet wet and dirty. Whether you choose to buy a pair of cheap wellies for the occasion or invest in a stronger, sturdier more expensive pair, we can’t stress enough how important it is to wear wellies – or at least waterproof footwear – at a festival this summer.

Bags

Festivals are jam packed full of people, so the last thing that you want to be doing is worrying about whether or not somebody’s pinching something out of your bag. Expect to be jostled around and pushed into a lot as well, so taking your five hundred dollar designer handbag to a festival is probably not the best of ideas. Instead, invest in a cheap rucksack, body-cross bag or even a bum bag where you can store any valuables, tickets, and money rather than leaving these items in your tent.

Accessories

When it comes to accessories you really can go wild at a festival, with everything from body jewelry to elaborate floral headdresses available. However, some accessories you’re really not going to want to forget – remember to protect yourself from the sun by wearing a pair of sunglasses, or at the very least a hat. Floppy hats are really in this summer, so why not wear one of those to keep yourself in the shade and looking fashionable and trendy at the same time.

Are you an avid festivalgoer? Which outfits do you tend to choose when you attend a festival? Do you have any advice or tips regarding what to wear for first time festivalgoers? Whether you’ve just come back from your first festival or attend a few different ones every year, we’d love to hear your experiences and advice in the comments below.

OOTD: May the 4th Be With You

Friday, May 15, 2015

Hi dearies! The title of the post says it all though it was taken days after May 4th. If you're a Star Wars fan, I presume you have witnessed the collaboration of Star Wars and Folded n Hung last December during the Star Wars X Folded n Hung launch. The collection from this collaboration includes designs from iconic characters of the first trilogy. If you want to see the event highlights, click HERE :)

For this OOTD (Outfit of the Day), I decided to go simple casual look. I wore this to an event that I've attended at Fairview Terraces. I'm happy that my dress went well with my Skechers GoWalk2 sneakers and my snakeskin Celine inspired bag from The Baggeria. What do you think? I was sporting a red lippie here and I'm not comfortable wearing bright red lipstick. I hope I was able to pull it off, comment below what you think okay? Outfit details after the jump.      During the launch, I was having a hard time on what style of dress to choose. This print was my second choice. I really wanted to get the other style of dress that has a mesh sleeves. But unfortunately, the sizes left on display were too big for me. The prints on this dress are the starships, cruisers, battleships and other spacecraft in the Star Wars movie.

OOTD: Black and White

Friday, April 03, 2015

It's been ages since my last OOTD (Outfit of the Day) post. Since the sky was clear, weather and the location was the perfect tandem for an outfit shoot, I decided to have another outfit post with the help of my blogger bestie Jen Maslang of shopgirljen.com

This outfit is very simple. If you follow me on my social media accounts, I presume you've already seen me wearing these pieces. This was the attire I wore at the event I've attended last week in BGC. We were advised to wear a black and white outfit. When there's an event where we are required to wear something or let's say there's an attire, I usually ask help with my fasyown blogger friends. They know that I'll be asking "what to wear, what to wear" three days before the event. I always feel that I'll be under dress if I follow my decision when it comes to formal event. Anyhoo, here's the outfit post :) Details of my outfit after the jump!

6 Modern Ways to Wear Pearls

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Long before pearls starting gracing fashion magazines and movie premiers, men and women throughout history have been coveting them for their lustrous natural beauty. The poster child of timeless elegance, these organic gems have slowly been making their presence known in the past few years – most recently, on the 2015 Oscar Awards. But pearls don’t necessarily have to be limited to glamorous awards shows. Let’s take a look at some modern ways that pearl jewelry can best be worn.

The Double Drape

If you’ve got a single-strand pearl rope necklace, it can be given a whole new feel just by looping and draping it twice around your neck. While it works great with turtlenecks or other tops with high necklines, it provides a modern look with a sexy allure when worn underneath a blouse with the top buttons popped open to just the right level.

The Larger, the Better

Larger pearls make a bold statement and complement outfits of neutral colors quite nicely. Large chunky bracelets are often showcased best when worn with short-sleeved tops whereas big pearl earrings can complete a sophisticated formal look.

6 Modern Ways to Wear Pearls

Romantic with Ribbons

Wearing pearls with accessories of varying textures dresses up even the most casual outfits. While online pearl necklace stores usually have an abundance of necklaces with pearls and diamonds, ribbons and pearls work just as perfectly for that date-night ensemble. The combination of the soft fabric of ribbons and the hard sheen of pearls can add up to a romantic and whimsical piece to be pulled off even when wearing everyday outfits.

On Accessories

Wearing pearls doesn’t have to be limited to the most common ways of wearing jewelry. Pearls can be added as embellishments on shoes, belts, watch straps, and even on hats. Add a touch of elegance to your look by wearing a pearl headband, or go the glamorous route by carrying a pearl clutch.

6 Modern Ways to Wear Pearls

On Clothes

Taking a cue from pearl accessories, these lustrous gems can also be sewed directly onto the fabric of your clothes. If Lupita Nyong’o’s red carpet stunner of a gown wasn’t proof enough that this works, try telling that to the fashion police. Different-sized pearls on the breasts of a cotton sweater can take it a level up from comfort casual, while pearls on denim overalls have been taken off the runway and onto the streets in trendy everyday wear.

6 Modern Ways to Wear Pearls

Pinned on Hair

Hair pins with single pearls look great on messy buns and chignons, and gives a fun and carefree vibe to your crowning glory. It may take a while for all of them to be removed afterwards and you may need to be extra careful about where you lay your head on while wearing them, but the look speaks for itself.

Pearls are a lot more versatile than most people give them credit and can be used for more than just formal occasions. Whether you wear yours in a more traditional way or with a more edgy feel, pearl jewelry pieces are a must-have for every girl’s accessories box.

Last November 18, I was invited by Lazada Philippines to get the first dibs as they launched their newest line of international brands as well as its own fashion line called LZD.      The event was hosted by Anne-Marie Bodal, Fashion Creative Director at Lazada. She's one of the stylish person I saw during the event, from the way she projected the dress and the shoes she's wearing even if it's all black showed how passionate she is with fashion. OOTD: Pahiyas Festival

Saturday, August 24, 2013

Here's a super late OOTD post. I was emptying my recycle bin yesterday and saw these outfit photos from our summer vacation at Lucban, Quezon. We stayed there for three days and luckily was able to celebrate one of the grandest festival in our country- The Pahiyas Festival. Have you seen colorful leaf shape decorations on television ads or from random things? Those leaf shape designs are called Kiping. It's made of malagkit/sticky rice and shaped into leaves symbolizing bountiful harvest. Pahiyas Festival is celebrated every 14th of May in honor of St. Isidore for giving farmers rich and bounty harvest throughout the year.

Since it's summer, I opted to wear something very light and comfortable from head to toe! And because the highlight of the celebration was to roam around the town to see houses decorated with colorful and awesome kipings, I decided to wear my super comfy sandals.

OOTD: Puss in Boots

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Hellos! This is my first outfit post of the year :) Thank you very much to Kai of Brew of the Day for taking my outfit shots. Remember that I'm very shy to take outfit shot in public? I'm 10x times more shy here when we did my outfit shot because it was taken inside the Landmark Trinoma but it's okay since almost all we're rushing home so there's only a couple of shoppers walking and they didn't even bother to look on what we're doing =P

I wore this outfit 3 weeks ago when I met-up and had dinner with blogger friends. I look haggard and tired in this photo, right? And look at my tummy, it's bloated like the cat in Puss in Boots hence the title of this OOTD. Blame it on Christmas and New Year's celebration and some post holiday gatherings. There's also 3 birthdays in our family after new year including my birthday! Insert the holiday weight gain here. Whew!
