     Hello everyone! My apologies for not posting lately because we just moved back to our permanent address after one year of living in a condo. I don't have a stable internet connection the past weeks because of the line transfer. Anyhoo, we have decided to make improvements in our permanent address because there are so many things to 'fix' in my husband's house that was built thirty years ago.

     House renovation is not an easy task. There are so many things to consider like the plan, design, budget, appliances, and furniture. Speaking of furniture, we had a hard time choosing the right furniture for our house theme which is modern classic minimalist.      When was the last time you brought something Filipino? Products that will fall under the category "proudly made in the Philippines?" I'm guilty of not patronizing Philippine-made products and the last time I bought one was years ago not for myself but for my cousins who live abroad.

     Last week, I was invited to the launch of Homtime products at SMX Convention Center Mall of Asia with other bloggers.      Innovation™ was founded in 1971 in Randers, Denmark. The Head of Design is the Danish architect Per Weiss, who is responsible for the concept and design of the collections.      Last week, I was invited to the Dunlopillo Moments launch in Ital Design Showroon at BGC. I have no idea what to expect but as what the invite said, the launch will feature designs that will showcase Dunlopillo mattresses. For a stay-at-home mom like me who always lacks seven-eight hours of sleep, seeing luxurious mattresses takes me to dreamland. 

     An expert on luxury in the home, Dunlopillo is the perfect partner for Ital Design, whose elegant yet uniquely designed bedroom vignettes provide an inspiring display of mattresses and furniture pieces for a variety of customers.      Among the ten vignettes on display, my heart skipped when I saw a red-themed bedroom that's so chic and screams lipstick. This is called The Crimson: Whether it be statement lipstick or a generous splash on the wall, no other color elicits excitement like a bright, unabashed red. In an interesting opposition to the usual use of this brave hue, white serves as the accent ‘pop color’ to offset the sea of red.

     Another design that I'm rooting that day was the Split Peas. Reflect boy and girl twins even in one room. Get creative and split the room right down the middle. Adorn the girl’s side with softer, feminine colors. As for the boy’s side, use more masculine hues and a pull out bed for sleepovers.

     Each vignette has its own style, function, and personality. Chan emphasizes, “We want our customers to feel that their bedroom is a truly personalized space.” The showroom is designed to equip customers to build the bedrooms of their dreams. 

     Thank you so much Dunlopillo and ARC Pr for having me. The ten vignettes truly gave me an idea on how to design our soon too be themed bedroom.  Truly a creative space where every customer can find inspiration for the home, the new Ital Design showroom is a great space where the best sleeping solutions meet the best of interior design.

CFL or LED: Which is the better light for you?

     Because of the ever increasing price of commodities, we all need to be smart in choosing the products that we buy. Quality over quantity. With lots of attributes to consider, which is really better for you? Let’s scale it down.

CFL or LED: Which is the better light for you?

CFL

• CFL also known as compact fluorescent is your mini version of a standard fluorescent light bulb.
• CFL gives lighting efficiency and has been used for decades now and it has graced our homes as it fits perfectly in an ordinary socket without using an adaptor.
• CFLs normally takes a few moments to warm up and reach its full brightness.
• However, CFLs contain a small amount of mercury which normally does not cause any hazard but if the bulb breaks accidentally, that’s where the problem comes in. Mercury has been banned in the medical field due to its harmful effect on human health.
• Regular CFL bulbs lasts up to 6000 hours
• Average energy use per year: 767 KWh/yr
• Average cost in the Philippines: Php 125 to 300

LED

• LED or Light Emitting Diodes was introduce several years back with the promise of lowering your electric bill. 
• According to the study made by Lighting Research Center, LED light bulbs work by bringing together currents with a positive and negative charge to create energy released in the form of light. The result of this is a fast source of light that is reliable and instantaneous.
• LED bulbs also fits an ordinary socket without the need of an adaptor and it bright up as soon as you switch it on.
• LED bulbs is considered good for the environment and are endorsed by green movements.
• LED bulbs generally cost more to buy although manufacturing technologies are lowering these prices as we move along.
• Regular LED lasts anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 hours.
• Average energy use per year: 329 KWh/yr
• Average cost in the Philippines: Php300 to 800

Equal Factor

     Both serves your lighting needs efficiently. Both fits in sockets of your lamps and fixtures. Meaning, if you don’t consider the chances of your bulb breaking then you would likely choose CFL over LED because of the price difference.

Points to Ponder:

     CFL might cost less but it requires you to buy more bulbs over time whereas LED lights last longer, so even though you’re paying more at purchase, you buy fewer bulbs in the long run.

     Considering the humid weather in the Philippines, we should also consider that CFL bulb emits more heat than LEDbulb, thus, by choosing wisely, you can reduce the heat index in your home.

     Moreover, if you care for the environment, Lower energy consumption decreases carbon dioxide emissions, sulfur oxide, and high-level nuclear waste.
