What are your prized possessions? These days, as gadget companies try to integrate technology into the lifestyle of consumers more seamlessly, wearable gadgets are all the rage. Think of smartwatches, high-tech rings and other wares merge the conveniences of modern technology and the appeal of fashion accessories. Did you know that ages ago before wearable tech became a thing, the concept of multi-purpose wearables has been around for some time now in the form of jewelry?

Contrary to what others may think, jewelry is not only a show of status symbol in the society and infusing a look with a different level of flair. A piece of jewelry definitely gives every outfit a touch of luxury. Imagine those huggie earrings, a gold watch or, a gem-encrusted ring that can certainly give that "shine bright like diamonds" effect to the wearer. In addition, gold jewelry seems to be always on the radar of fashion influencers--just in different interpretations. But beyond aesthetics and creative expression, jewelry is actually a practical commodity and I agree with that 100%. Want to know why? Read more below :)

If a child asks you why it is important to wash your hands, do you have an instant answer? It's a no brainer that you'll say- handwashing is very important to avoid sickness. But to a little one, there's more to explain other than the diseases caused by not washing your hands properly. The curious minds need to be satisfied in order for them to understand the basics- the why, when, what, and how of hand washing.

Weeks ago, Safeguard Philippines brought us to Singapore to know the answers to those questions. They let us visit their innovation center to discover the science behind germs. We became mommy microbiologist and the kids were the little detectives for a day to investigate if our hands are really clean. Choosing the Right Outfit for a Special Occasion

Monday, April 10, 2017

If you have a special occasion to attend like a garden party, a corporate event or a wedding, you want to look your best. Of course, that means going out and buying a nice outfit. It is a great chance to spend a little extra money, and buy something special. You are looking for the type of outfit you would never get the chance to wear otherwise.

Dressing for special occasions in the Spring / Summer season is far easier than it is to find an outfit for an event in the winter or autumn. Generally speaking, in the summer, you have more options. For example, you can choose to wear a strappy sandal or a pair of closed in shoes. Both options work equally as well. Of course, in the winter, it would be too cold to wear open footwear, but there are always plenty of nice court shoes available.

Choosing the Right Outfit for a Special Occasion

A touch of luxury

When buying for a special occasion it is always a good idea to try to buy something that is made from rich fabrics. Most of us do not wear silk, satin or lace in our everyday lives, which keeps them special. Rich fabrics like these look fantastic, feel good against the skin, and because they are heavier, garments made from them tend to hang well.

Tap into the theme

If the event you are attending has a theme, bear it in mind when you are buying your outfit. This will help to inspire you and ensure that you buy something that blends in and works well for the special occasion you are attending.

Follow the dress code

For some events there is a dress code, which you should always read before you go shopping. It is usually wise to follow the rules. Sometimes, not doing so could lead to your being denied entry.

Get the tone of your outfit right

If the event is a traditional one, for example an awards ceremony or something like one of The Queen’s garden parties you need to get the tone of your outfit right too. The best way to do this is to look at photos of the last few years’ events, and take your cue from those.

Get the fit right

For a special occasion, you should always shop well in advance. This gives you the time to try everything on together and address any issues. If something needs altering it can easily take a couple of weeks for your seamstress to do the work and get the item back to you.

Accessorise carefully

Perhaps the most important aspect of shopping for an occasion outfit is getting the accessories right. Little touches like having items like fascinators dyed to match the rest of your accessories can make all the difference to your overall look.

Most women get their hair done on the day, but rarely consider getting their makeup done professionally as well. If you can afford it, and time allows, this is well worth doing, so you can achieve a flawless look. Sometimes employing a makeup artist works out cheaper than buying a set of new makeup products for the special event.

Dengvaxia Dengue Vaccine Now Available in Watsons

Saturday, April 08, 2017

Did you know that there is no known cure for dengue fever? I was shocked when I heard this from the event speaker weeks ago during the launch of Dengvaxia Dengue Vaccine availability in select Watsons stores. So what really happens inside the hospital if a patient's laboratory result on dengue test is positive?

According to Dr. Rontgene Solante, patients who have dengue fever will only receive fever and hydration management in the hospital. After all these years, I thought there's a cure for dengue like antibiotics or a special kind of medicine. I fear mosquito bites because of dengue that's why I always follow preventive measures at home. Since I always believe that prevention is better than cure, I'll look on the brighter side despite having second thoughts of injecting the deadly virus inside my body. More information on dengue fever and Dengvaxia after the jump.

Skin Care Tips To Clear Acne

Thursday, April 06, 2017

There are many different types of acne and plenty of proposed solutions to your pimple woes. However, when it comes to skincare, say goodbye to complex regimens, and say hello to simple changes that can bring dramatic changes to your skin.

Some people are born with beautiful clear skin, but most of us are not so lucky. Diet, exercise, genetics, and hormones have a lot to do with the severity of acne. The origin of your acne may be rooted in many different causes so treatment may be equally complex. However, there are many simple tricks that can get you on track for clearer, healthier skin. Some DIY treatments and solutions can actually be harmful to skin, so when it comes to skin care treatment, it is time to downsize your regimen for a simpler routine. Here are a few simple skin care tips to clear acne.

Skin Care Tips To Clear Acne

Use a Gentle Makeup Remover

Stop irritating your skin by scrubbing it harshly with a washcloth and hand soap. Hand soap is not designed to suit your vulnerable skin, and the chemicals can prove to be a harsh irritant, creating rashes or causing your pores to create more oil. In addition, scrubbing your face with a washcloth our other material will cause further irritation. Those who rub their skin excessively can peel off vital new skin cells, damage pores, and stimulate the production of oil.

Skip the rubbing and stick to a gentle makeup remover. Apply lightly to the skin with water and gently rub in with your fingers and voila—a makeup free face.

Use a Night Cream

When it comes to moisturizing your skin, not just any lotion or cream will do. This is why dermatological companies create specific products just to moisturize the face. Night creams are meant to retain moisture throughout the night and help quicken the skin-repairing process that occurs while you’re asleep. The key to finding the right night cream for you is to decide between an oil-based or water-based product. Typically, water-based night creams will cause less irritation and are less likely to lead to breakouts. What’s more is that a night cream can also be used as a makeup primer. The skin naturally absorbs water-based face creams quicker, so it can go under makeup quickly. This is especially important if you live in a dry climate and during dry winters.

Stop Using Harsh Exfoliates and Face Masks

If you are a Pinterest enthusiast, you have likely seen hundreds of pins that advertise DIY facemasks and exfoliates. The most popular types include those with natural ingredients such as lemon, honey, lavender, cinnamon, avocado, egg white, Greek yogurt, and the list goes on and on. For some people, a regimen that includes a facemask can truly rejuvenate the skin, and different ingredients can make skin glow. However, a common mistake comes in using masks too often. Harsh exfoliates such as cinnamon can burn and irritate the skin, especially for those with sensitive skin or those taking strong acne medications. Certain types of cystic acne treatment make the skin more sensitive; using a mask such as this every night, for example, can actually cause you to break out more because you are always peeling off the new layer of skin.

Some choose to buy exfoliates from the store. Again, for many people, exfoliates are simply not a good choice. From natural scrubs to exfoliating beads, it is best to let nature take its course and let the skin clear on its own. The only time you should use an exfoliate is if your dermatologists tells you to do so.
