'Mas Creamy Sarap Polvoron' from Red Ribbon

Monday, November 02, 2015

One of my favorite Filipino desserts comes in a small plastic packaging filled with milky yummy goodness. I'm a fan of that powdered milk sweet dessert that no doubt everyone loves. Everyone has that one special food item that brings memories of home. Arguably for Filipinos, this is the classic Polvoron. Here's great news from Red Ribbon, one of the biggest bakeshops in the Philippines, introduces its Classic Polvoron—a delightful treat that bursts a melt-in-your-mouth sweetness and creaminess, leaving an aftertaste that’s sure to make Filipinos grab for more.

According to Zinnia Rivera, general manager of Red Ribbon, the Classic Polvoron offers just the right amount of sweetness, with more “creamy sarap” goodness. “The creamy taste of Polvoron has an empowering taste that brings Filipinos back to their childhood years,” Rivera said. “Since adults enjoy the rich, creamy taste of Polvoron, they now share their all-time favorite treat to their children. With Red Ribbon’s Classic Polvoron in place, children and adults alike will find our creamy variant more irresistible.”
'Mas Creamy Sarap Polvoron' from Red Ribbon
The Red Ribbon Classic Polvoron comes in singles, pack of eights (8s) and box of 16s. The price ranges for each pack is P10, P73 and P143, respectively.

Rivera added, “What’s best about our Classic Polvoron is its sweet, creamy taste that’s perfect for mothers who want the best sweet treat for their kids’ recess or for the ates and kuyas out there who are looking for that sweet ending after a scrumptious meal.”

Aside from the Classic Polvoron, Red Ribbon also boasts its other Polvoron flavors. This includes the Pinipig Polvoron, which bursts with the same creamy goodness complemented by crunchy pinipig bits; and the Peanut Polvoron, which contains flavorful real peanut bits mixed with powdered milk and lightly toasted flour and butter. For families who want to taste all three flavours, they can opt to purchase the Assorted Polvoron Pack.

Rivera said, “We’re making it easier for Filipino families to enjoy all our Polvoron flavors in one pack at an affordable price.”

“Red Ribbon’s Polvoron products are popular delicacies that never fail to delight Filipino families,” Rivera added. “For its part, Red Ribbon Bakeshop will continue to innovate its products by improving the taste and design. We will continue to make great-tasting confections that are guaranteed to delight families regardless of the occasion.”

Now on its 36th year, Red Ribbon continues to make each celebration—whether small or grand—even more special. To date, the popular bakeshop chain now has over 300 stores nationwide.

Monday, September 14, 2015

Hi dearies! Two weeks ago, I was invited by Taste of Capitol Filipino-American Bistro Diner to try their menu offerings. At first I have no idea about the newest dine-in and chill out place located in one of the busy streets of Quezon City. The place has a laid back look. You can feel the American-Mexican-Filipino fusion once you step inside the bistro diner because of the displays and the paintings on their tables and walls.

They've served their best-selling entrees to invited bloggers that day. Aside from all time favorites that I'll be sharing the photos below, they are also serving all day breakfast, big breakfast, favorite desserts, flavored  beers, and cocktails. I've heard that Taste of Capitol first location was in Kapitolyo, Pasig then last August they decided to move and start their business here in Quezon city as a bistro-diner. See some of their delectable and savory offerings below :)

This is the first floor of Taste of Capitol. There's a mini bar where you can order your favorite drinks and chill out with friends. They have flavored beers, wines and liquors, and cocktails. They are also offering promos for their drinks so if you're looking for a place where you can eat and get booze at the same time, this is the perfect place for you.

The photos below are just some of the offerings on their menu. The price is affordable and some of the servings are good for sharing. Here are the food offerings that are dubbed as the all time favorites:

1. Crispy Liempo Nachos

Their nacho corn chips re not the usual yellow corn chips. It is colorful- you can see green, red, and orange corn chips served with tomatoes, onions, lechon bits, and drizzled with mayonnaise and spices plus sprinkled with grated cheese. This is one of my favorites from the menu!

Filipino Merienda with Via Mare at 40

Sunday, August 23, 2015

Home is where the heart is! When it comes to restaurant dishes and viands, Filipino cuisine will always be in my heart. Although I'm craving for international cuisines, no one can take the place of Filipino dishes in my heart. So when craving for authentic Filipino food arise, may it be for breakfast, lunch, merienda, or dinner, Via Mare is here to satisfy those hunger pangs anytime of the day!

I was invited by Via Mare to an afternoon of Filipino food delights. It was an intimate event with lifestyle and food bloggers held in Via Mare TriNoma branch. The branch is inside Landmark so if you're planning to dine in there, be sure to go inside Landmark department store where Via Mare is located. Excited to see what treats we had at Via Mare? Scroll down please and get ready to see those mouth-watering merienda by the one and only Via Mare!
Filipino Merienda with Via Mare at 40
Via Mare's Brief History

Unlike other cuisines’ penchant for presentation, Filipino cuisine is served in a more family-oriented manner–without the pomp and frills. And just as many islands there are in the country, so is the number of variations a single dish could possibly have.

But things changed in September 1975 when Via Mare Seafood Specialty Restaurant opened its doors to the public. After the very first dish was served, Filipino cuisine was never the same again.

The restaurant did not only change the Filipino’s perception of its own cuisine, it also brought global recognition to the sophistication and complex flavors of the Philippines. Via Mare’s chef Glenda Barretto, who has been at the helm of the restaurant since its inception, and her strong belief in the Filipino cuisine’s potential to be world class is what pushed the restaurant to keep outdoing its achievements.
Filipino Merienda with Via Mare at 40
While Barretto’s contemporaries would focus on intercontinental cuisine as their piece de résistance, she opted to highlight and present well-loved Filipino dishes with modern touches that made it more palatable to foreign guests. If lumpia was known as a roll, the Via Mare version had the filling wrapped in pouches held together by spring onions. The tinola was also given a fresh take by serving the soup in a carved papaya or as a flan, inspired by the Chawanmushi of Japan.

“The past 40 years is not only the story of a restaurant, it is a story of the Filipino people,” Barretto said. “Via Mare is our pride as we helped a lot of Filipinos enjoy and be proud of the cuisine that we have here, of recipes that we have enjoyed throughout our childhood, and of what Filipino fine cuisine truly tastes like.”

Filipino favorites loved for generations

True to its Filipino heritage, Via Mare serves Filipino cuisine that matches the eating pattern of Filipinos: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and merienda – a meal that is served in between the main meals of the day.

Merienda, or light snacks, are as important as main meals for Filipinos. At Via Mare, diners can choose from the following well-loved Filipino fare such as:

PUTO BUMBONG (P80)

One of the favorite deserts of the Filipinos during holiday season but at Via Mare, it's available all year round. You can choose the kind of cheese you want: cheddar cheese or queso de bola.

BIBINGKA (P160 | P130)

Another well-loved dessert and my favorite too. I can eat bibingka anytime of the day and any day in 365 days of the year. I don't have to wait for Christmas because Via Mare serves this hot off the clay pot.

GUINATAANG HALO-HALO (P98)

This is my mom's favorite snack. I'll treat my mom on my next visit to Via Mare and she'll be surprised with this. Taro, purple yam and sweet potato stewed in rich coconut cream with rice dumpling, plantain banana and jack fruit- this comfort food gives energy with vitamins and minerals at the same time. Talk about go and glow foods!

Guinataang Halo-Halo
PUTO MAYA (P165)

Oh, so this is puto maya. I was surprised to see the real puto maya. I thought it's just a puto (rice cake) prepared in a different way. It's my first time to see this Filipino dessert- glutinous rice steamed with coconut cream served with ripe mango.

 BIBINGKA CASSAVA (P70)

Another Filipino dessert that I considered 'heavy' as a snack. It's very filling. Carbo loading? Then this is the dessert for you!

PALITAW (P55)

This Filipino merienda reminds me of my childhood. Every afternoon, my siblings will wait for the palitaw vendor to pass by our house. It's classic- poached rice patties with grated coconut and sesame seeds.

They also have comfort food like arroz caldo, tokwa’t baboy, pansit, fresh lumpia ubod to name a few that's also serve during merienda.

ARROZ CALDO (P205 | P185)

This rice porridge is served plain with egg or chicken for a savory meal. A comfort food perfect for cold weather.

DINUGUAN AT PUTO (P205)

Some foreigners call it 'chocolate beef', it's one of the favorite dishes among Filipinos. According to Wikipedia, dinuguan is a Filipino savory stew of meat and/or offal (typically lungs, kidneys, intestines, ears, heart and snout) simmered in a rich, spicy dark gravy of pig blood, garlic, chili (most often siling mahaba), and vinegar. Paired with puto for a happy tummy meal!

LUGAW TOPPINGS (P225)

Rice porridge topped with adobo flakes, salted duck egg, crisp tofu, pork kilawin, fried wonton, garlic flakes and spring onions. Oh, super love this lugaw toppings because it's very filling and full of flavor! This bowl is good for sharing :)

 LOMI (P190)

Another noodle dish that's perfect during rainy season but of course you can have this any season you want!

 FRESH LUMPIA UBOD (P132)

This is just a small version of the lumpia ubod- a spring roll of ehart of palm with pork and shrimp. The wrapper is made from scratch and surprisingly it's good. The texture is soft and a little chewy.

 TOKWA'T BABOY (P172)

Fried tofu and boiled pork in garlic-soy vinaigrette. One of my faves! I can have this anytime of the day.

 PANCIT LUGLOG (P230)

Via Mare's inimitable pasta delight of rice noodles with luscious shrimp sauce and savory toppings. Should I say more? The photo says it all!

Ending scrumptious feasts on a sweet note are iced desserts such as halo-halo, mais con hielo, and guinomis. If you want to try these three cold desserts but you're already full, you can try the shooters.

SHOOTERS (P98)

A small serving of halo-halo, mais con hielo, and guinomis served in a small glass. Satisfy your iced desserts cravings with these three.

Shooters: halo-halo, mais con hielo, guinomis

These offerings are good for sharing so fret not about the price. I was overwhelmed by the servings at first, o if I'll do the math, the price is okay. It's worth every peso you'll spend!

“At 40 years, we have shown the world and most especially our fellow Filipinos, what Filipino cuisine is all about – it is about the freshest of ingredients cooked in influences of our ancestors and the rich heritage of the Filipino nation, sprinkled with the love and affection of a Filipino chef,” Barretto said.

Delight in the well-loved Filipino flavors and savor your classic family favorites at Via Mare. Truly, you can never go wrong with Filipino food. It's simple but full of flavor and inspiration. These classics what others would call will always have a special place in our hearts. I do hope you'll agree even though some of you may be craving for international cuisines, these food offerings from Via Mare have imprinted memories from childhood that you'll cherish for a lifetime! Saturday, August 01, 2015

One of the things that I truly miss is going on a travel. I'm not a travel junkie but when opportunity knocks and the gods are in my favor, I will plan the trip right away. Planning a trip is not easy. There are so many things to consider like the location, expenses, and the essential things to pack. These things consist of travel essentials that you will bring in your trip like food, water, containers, skin care, and other products that will make the travel a memorable one. I have great news, my default and go-to supermarket Robinsons Supermarket wants to share with you their list of travel essential goodies that I'm sure will make your travel fuss-free

This quarter, Robinsons Selections’ theme “Pick-up and Pack-up” is dedicated to the born traveler who is always up for an adventure. Those who are hardwired to travel can be struck by the urge to pack and go at any given time. It has a wide selection of grab-and-go items and healthy food offerings that are perfect for packing.
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings
Here is a list of fundamental items that should go in the travel bag for a guaranteed awesome trip:

1. Portable and nutrition-packed food
If one is to go camping, it is best to bring items that require less cooking and can be-eaten hot or cold. This brings into picture Arrowhead’s flaxseed and quinoa that are both rich sources of dietary fiber and protein

2. Fundamental liquids
Water is basic necessity and potable drinking water might not always be available when travelling. Always carry bottles of drinking water like B’lue Water in Orange and Lychee for a little twist to your regular water.

Lock n' Lock Water Bottle
Another option is to pack healthy drinks in carton boxes such as Tipco’s Broccoli and Pomegranate fresh juices. It doesn’t require refrigeration unless opened and it’s easy to dispose after.

3. Canned goods
Canned goods have always been every traveler’s trusted companion. It is a meal in a can that’s easy to pack and doesn’t take up too much space. Palm corned beef is highly recommended and it comes in three delightful variants: garlic, onion and bbq.
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings
Palm Barbecue Corned Beef
4. Raw cheese slices
Although cheese may not be considered exactly necessary, but adding dairy to your diet is actually healthy too. Transform simple packed sandwiches into something special by slipping in a hefty slice of cheese. Choose Kraft processed cheese for a creamy twist.
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings
Kraft Cheddar Cheese
5. Fruits
Maintain access to important vitamins and minerals by packing produce that doesn’t easily bruise like Alfa’s Fuji apples and Australian Crimson grapes. But with all the stuffing of items in the bag the possibility of the produce turning into mush is nigh, which brings us to another important item.

6. Containers
Season travelers know the value of hard-sided containers. Use Saw Glass Foodkeeper with locks and Boseal Round Glass Heat to protect packed produce and other things. It is wise to invest in leak-proof containers such as these, as they are convenient and efficient. For water bottle, Lock n' Lock is your best bet. It's BPA Free and easy to clean and use plus it comes in different colors too!
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings

7. Sanitizers
Hygiene standards vary among destinations. Nevertheless, it is recommended to frequently wash hands to prevent illnesses. For a quick clean on the go get Cleene alcohol or hand sanitizers such as that of Human Nature’s, which comes in Citrus and Floral scents.
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings
Cleene Cleansing Spray
8. Insect repellent
Insect repellent is an absolute necessity especially when travelling to places where mosquitoes and other insects are known to transmit diseases. Take refuge in Human Nature’s insect repellant and lotion bug shield. This is my favorite insect repellent and I highly recommend this brand. Bought more than five bottles and I can truly attest to its effectiveness.
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings
Human Heart Nature Bug Shield
9. Skin regimen basics
Staying pretty and pleasant throughout a trip should not be underrated. Maintain your daily skin regimen with the Olay Regenerist Serum and Total Effects available in travel-sizes. Keep your skin looking in top-shape with the Pond’s Flawless White BB cream and Vaseline lotion with SPF30.
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings
Olay Regenerist Serum, Pond's Flawless White BB Cream, Vaseline Healthy White Serum
10. Emergency snacks
Being mobile opens up to the possibility of long travel periods with no allowance for stopovers, in this case emergency munchies at hand would be very helpful. For sweet fixes, chew on a flavorful bunch of Skittles. It is also wise to bring a box of gingerbread cookies like Anna’s Original Cappuccino and Ginger thins if looking for a bite with a crisp. This one is the new great alternative to your favorite ginger bread cookies, promise!
Robinsons Selections' "Pick-Up and Pack-Up" Offerings
Anna's Original Cappucino Thins
Delicious Fitbars that come in Fruits, Nuts, and Chocolate are also packed with ancient grain nutrition, making it an ideal healthy and filling snack.
