Clever Fitness Tips from Dr. Ian Banzon and Jeunesse Anion

Friday, January 22, 2016

When I was young, my parents have big dreams for me. They wanted me to become a doctor but there are a lot of things to consider that time. Even though I did not become what they've dreamed of, I'm proud to say that they did their best in making sure that I'll have a bright future.

Every year, I have this mantra of looking back at the past not to regret and blame the things that happened but to analyze what needs to be polished this new year. When it comes to our resolution to be better year after year, we know that the struggle is real from eating healthier, moving more, to excelling at work or school all at the same time.

At a very young age of 12, Dr. Ian has always been a passionate student athlete while keeping her academics above average. Apart from these, she’s also a full-fledged Master’s Degree holder of Business Administration while subsequently competing for the Philippine water polo team at the Southeast Asian games. And just recently, she has also completed her medical degree from Ateneo de Manila University at 27 years old.

A go-getter and constantly driven by her passion for sports and fitness, Dr. Ian proves that one doesn’t have to rest on her laurels which are road blocks to exploring and learning new things. A firm believer and doer of healthy habits, Dr. Ian also remains unstoppable even during her time of the month.

As a dedicated multi-sport, endurance and CrossFit athlete, Dr. Ian keeps it going no matter what, as long as she uses a reliable sanitary napkin like Jeunesse Anion. “With my active and busy lifestyle, I need a high-quality pad to keep me protected and comfortable. And with Jeunesse Anion, its five variants are well suited for different types of flow. For an athlete like me, I rely a lot on the ultra day pad which unbelievably stays in place despite the activities that I do. The anion strip is also a unique feature that keeps me fresh since it prevents bacteria build up,” says Dr. Ian.

For those who are asking whether or not exercising is advisable while on a period, Dr. Ian in fact, emphasizes that it isn’t an excuse to slack. “Schedule some low-key yoga or a light- cardio work out, like walking or a breezy bike ride. Although you might feel particularly out of sorts, push yourself forward because exercise gives you a natural endorphin high that can elevate the mood and actually make you feel better in no time. Another bonus is getting relief from bloat since sweating can help you get rid of extra fluids”, adds Dr. Ian.

In theory, we’d love to have a personal trainer. But in practice, Dr. Ian’s advice is: “You don’t need to have a specific background in sports or training to get started on your active lifestyle. You just need to show up, work out, and be consistent with it!” she concludes.

Get Glowing and Gorgeous this Holiday Season

Sunday, December 06, 2015

‘Tis the season to be merry and healthy! From Christmas parties, family reunions, and series of night outs, there’s simply no room for stress, break outs, and bloating.

However, the dog days of El Niño plus your monthly visit can only heighten the symptoms of PMS, which certainly doesn’t spell like fun to us. So learn a trick or two from Philippine-US registered dietitian nutritionist Cheshire Que, RND, RN, RDN and with Fellow the of Philippine Dermatological Society and Medical Director of The Skin Specialist’s Dr. Jean Marquez to make sure you’re glowing and gorgeous this holiday season.

Fried, sweets, and rich foods, who can resist? While it’s no sin to indulge for the merry season of Christmas, the key is to eat mindfully and moderately. “Fuel up before you go to a party. Have cereal or oatmeal with fruits, which are loaded with fiber and antioxidants--it’s a simple way of keeping yourself from noshing too much carbs and fats. Take time to scan the spread and carefully choose what you’d like to have before piling them up on your plate, which should include veggies, protein, and healthy amount of fats such as salmon. Don’t miss a bowl of clear soup or glass of water before the meal begins, hydration is crucial for efficient metabolism and beating the bloat”, says dietitian-nutritionist Cheshire.

While it’s a temptation to delay and neglect sleep during the holidays, know that it’s bad for your hormones, which affects the appetite and cravings by making the body want to eat more. And here’s a motivation to seriously aim for the 7-8 fully restorative hours of shut-eye according to Dr. Jean: toning, lightening of dark circles around the eye, and preventing breakouts. “It’s also the ultimate in skin anti-aging that costs zero”, adds Dr. Jean.

The worse part of having an all jacked up hormones during PMS (namely estrogen and progesterone) are a bad case of mood swings, anxiety, and irritability. That’s why Jeunesse Anion Sanitary napkin and liners are not only equipped with a special soft top sheet material with quick absorbing properties, superior liquid-retention made of dirt-free and sterilized virgin pulp, breathable bottom layer, non-toxic adhesive to keep material in tact, it’s special anion chip defines the difference which helps to prevent bacteria, reduce feminine discomfort, and helps eliminate unwanted odors. In addition, recent research at the University of California proves that negative ions stabilize serotonin levels of the brain heightening a person’s positive outlook and mood. Need we say more?

As a conclusion, we can’t help but say it again: exercise and get moving! In fact, nutritionist-dietitian Cheshire only requires total of 1-½ hours of moderate intensity exercise weekly to increase the system’s capacity to burn calories and to prevent those unsightly Santa belly. And aside from Dr. Jean who swear by its glowing effect for the skin, exercise releases endorphins which produces feelings of euphoria, so you’re always on the go and ready to party for the entire holiday season!

4 Back to School Tips from Jeunesse Anion

Friday, June 26, 2015

It’s that time of the year when most students get the fired up excitement for the new school season, but it also proves to be one of the most challenging chapters. Whether a high school student gearing up for a well-balanced academics and club activities, a college student aiming for a dean’s list, or an MA student going for the gold, storms of stress particularly during monthly period can wreak havoc on a woman’s mood and comfort. !

And for those times of the month when unavoidable dysmenorrhea or mood swings become a crazy overdrive, there’s always Jeunesse. The first Filipino sanitary napkin and liners with a unique anion material, Jeunesse features seven innovative benefits crafted for women with busy, active lifestyle:
4 Back to School Tips from Jeunesse Anion

  • top cover from non-woven material instead of chemical fiber surface
  • anion strip that emits negatively-charged molecules for lasting protection and freshness
  • side leak guard for double strikethrough protection
  • a super-absorbent polymer for maximum liquid protection
  • strictly sterilized layer
  • a breathable bottom layer for superior air flow
  • a topnotch back adhesive to keep pad securely in place

Aside from Jeunesse’s carefully chosen design and materials, the pads are machine packed and sealed in an aluminum foil packaging, which say a lot about its safety and sanitation standard.

For a better appreciation of anion, this is not anything foreign when it comes to its host of health benefits particularly in enhancing natural release of happy, frenzied vibe.

  • not only improves the mood, it does a lot of helpful wonders during the red days: balances PH and hormone levels
  • protects you from airborne germs
  • reduces inflammation
  • eliminates odor
  • fights against vaginal irritations

Jeunesse offers five varieties with different sizes to support all types of menstrual flow from day pad, night pad, all night, ultra day nonwing, to panty liners.

School days might mean end of summer but it’s also an opportunity to rise above and become more positively better! While it’s so easy to lose sight of these goals, here are some practical tips which can make students give priorities a second thought:
4 Back to School Tips from Jeunesse Anion

  • Set study goals. Discipline is one true mark of a person who wants to be more and do more. Be reminded about short term and long term visions which make studies a big step toward those many dreams in life.
  • Make a study timetable and stick with it. A timetable serves as a practical guide of activities that demand urgent attention or things that should take a back seat. There’s really no hard and fast rule and flexibility is most welcome. This could include bed time, breaks, and —most importantly— quality time that should be spent on studies.
  • Learn to say no. This is not about giving up social activities, in fact, it’s important to live a well-balanced life. The point is, never take on things that shouldn’t be part of the schedule just because it’s uncomfortable to say no. Keeping priorities in mind while practicing loving words to speak will take away the unnecessary awkwardness of saying no.
  • Stay focused. One easy step is to have a journal. It’s a great tool for recording thoughts, ideas, and tracking progress. Written goals and visions make one easily detect distractions or interruptions, plus it’s a very personal thing which has a life of its own.

So whether it’s braving the exam week or beating a school deadline during a monthly period, no need to dread anything—Jeunesse Anion Sanitary Napkin and Liners will surely boost your confidence for a more enjoyable and fruitful student life.
