How to Find the Perfect Style for Your Body Type

Monday, October 24, 2016

Finding the perfect outfit to compliment your body type may be a difficult task to master, especially when you don't understand basic fashion principles. But making the right choices can dramatically change the way you look and give you an instant boost a confidence. In this article, I'm going to show you exactly what to wear and what to avoid depending on body your shape.

First of all, you have to know what your body shape is to begin with. If you have narrow shoulders, but a wider waist, then you're considered pear shaped. If you have wider shoulders, you will be identified as an apple shaped body. If your shoulders are the same width as your waist, your body type is considered rectangular and if you're top heavy with wide hips and a narrow waist, you have what is considered an hourglass shaped body.

The Old Little Black Dress: How to bring it back to life

Monday, October 26, 2015

The little black dress is that one article of clothing that every woman’s closet should have. It’s versatile, classy, and can be worn in just about any type of event. But if your little black dress has that feel of being too old-fashioned, or too worn, don’t just throw it out and buy a new one. Here are 3 quick tips to bring that old little black dress back to life.
The Old Little Black Dress: How to bring it back to life
1. Use trendy accessories.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock all this time, you’d surely have noticed just what types of accessories are popular at the moment. One way of breathing new life into an old black dress without having to pull it apart just yet is by simply changing up the accessories that you’ve always worn with it. Use a pearl-studded belt, pin a brooch, or wear layered necklaces to put out a different vibe. You can also visit Teeda.com for the latest jewelry styles.

2. Embellish the collar/waist/hemline.

Pearls of different sizes can be sewn onto the collar of the dress to create a textured look. If your dress doesn’t have a collar, then you can simply put one on (one that has its own embellishments like sequins, buttons, or beads). Or you can use iron-on rhinestones and add them to the waistline to bring some sparkle back to the middle part of the dress. But if you’d rather keep the top part of the dress as it is, another way of reviving it is to just add a ribbon to the hemline of the dress. Whatever kind of embellishment you prefer to do, it would surely put a little zing back to the old black ensemble.

3. Sew on an old gold necklace.

If you’ve got an old gold necklace lying around from days when chunky gold necklaces were a thing, then try sewing it on the neckline of your LBD. Instant glam, instant accessory. But if gold isn’t doing it for you, try sewing on some silver chains instead. You can get silver chains for less from an online wholesale silver jewelry retailer. Arrange them in varying lengths along the neckline, and see your dress sparkle with new life.

There certainly are quite a number of ways to reinvent an old outfit. But if you feel like your little black dress has become too familiar to people around you, just don’t wear it until a year or two after - by then, it may need a new revamping session. Have fun!

How to Dress for Success Without Emptying Your Wallet

Sunday, August 09, 2015

50 Cent is all over the news these days after he filed for bankruptcy. Quite a big turnaround for a guy who was named by Forbes as the fourth wealthiest hip-hop artist with an estimated $155 million net worth. The bankruptcy filing comes after a court ordered him to pay $5 million in a sex tape trial.

Talking about his bankruptcy, 50 Cent said he borrowed gold chains and watches just to keep up appearances that he lived a lavish lifestyle. While we’re sure Fiddy will be back making millions from his various business ventures, it seems this latest episode in his life is a case of dressing for success and going broke in the process.
How to Dress for Success Without Emptying Your Wallet
Here are a few tips on how to dress for success on a budget - and hopefully avoid 50 Cent’s fate.

Create Your Signature Look

Steve Jobs had his black turtleneck and blue jeans, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has his grey t-shirt and hoodie, Carrie Donovan (fashion editor for Vogue) had her large eyeglasses, black clothing, and pearls. These people kept their wardrobe simple and consistent and following in their footsteps can help you save money too! No need to buy several clothes if you basically have a uniform when you go to work. Another benefit is that it saves you time because you don’t have to fuss every morning on what to wear.

“You can have anything you want in your life if you dress for it,” said Edith Head in her book 1967 book How to Dress for Success. Dressing up well has an impact on the way we think and the way we work so consider your trip to the department store an investment in your career.

Review The Fashion Items You Already Have in Your Wardrobe

When was the last time you cleaned out your closet? You might want to do it soon and you just might find pieces that you can still use. Perhaps you might find some pieces that you stocked away and have forgotten. And no, I’m not talking about the clothes you wore when you were an intern five years ago and you were two sizes smaller.

Taking stock of what you have in your wardrobe can also help you avoid the mistake of buying similar clothing. A quality attire stands the test of time, as long as these still fit you well, of course.

Get Back to Basics

Some clothes just say “professional” at one glance. These are your slacks and dress shirts for men while women get more options when it comes to what the basics are but this includes skirts and blouses. If you’re going to spend on a new wardrobe and not go with the ones that are already in your wardrobe, these basics are a good place to start.

If you think about it, you’ll be spending 5 days of the whole week dressed in them so these will get a lot of use. Spending a little more for quality clothes that last and also look good can prove to be a wise move. It’s also easy to mix and match when you get a set of basics.

A Blazer is Your Best Friend

Putting on a blazer or a coat makes it easy to look professional. Plus wearing one helps you feel authoritative not to mention it helps hide a crinkled shirt. The trick to wearing it well is to pick one that fits you well. Stick to dark colors without any stripes and you’ve got something to wear throughout the work week!

Shop Only When It’s On Sale

End-of-season sales and other sale events are a great time to shop for the basics and blazers. But don’t overdo it! Once you’ve had a full set to cover your workweek, forget about updating your wardrobe until it needs replacing. You’re not saving money when you bought something on sale if you don’t need it.

So dress for success! With these handy tips, you don’t have to spend too much to look professional at work. Need more tips on how to dress for success on a budget? Hit the link! So tell us, how else do you save on what you wear to work? Let us know in the comments!

OOTD: May the 4th Be With You

Friday, May 15, 2015

Hi dearies! The title of the post says it all though it was taken days after May 4th. If you're a Star Wars fan, I presume you have witnessed the collaboration of Star Wars and Folded n Hung last December during the Star Wars X Folded n Hung launch. The collection from this collaboration includes designs from iconic characters of the first trilogy. If you want to see the event highlights, click HERE :)

For this OOTD (Outfit of the Day), I decided to go simple casual look. I wore this to an event that I've attended at Fairview Terraces. I'm happy that my dress went well with my Skechers GoWalk2 sneakers and my snakeskin Celine inspired bag from The Baggeria. What do you think? I was sporting a red lippie here and I'm not comfortable wearing bright red lipstick. I hope I was able to pull it off, comment below what you think okay? Outfit details after the jump.      During the launch, I was having a hard time on what style of dress to choose. This print was my second choice. I really wanted to get the other style of dress that has a mesh sleeves. But unfortunately, the sizes left on display were too big for me. The prints on this dress are the starships, cruisers, battleships and other spacecraft in the Star Wars movie.
