Cannonball Run Circuit 2016: Run of a Lifetime

Tuesday, March 08, 2016

I've seen real race cars in the past. I'm a self-confessed car enthusiast, although I rarely drive now because of trauma, my love for modified cars will always be in heart. To all my readers who are also race car fanatics, I want to share with you this article.

Organized by six-time endurance run champion Joey Almeda, Cannonball Run Circuit 2016 brought together hundreds of car and motorbike enthusiasts, and put each participant through a gruelling 24-hour ride that traversed Northern Luzon, from Oxford Hotel, Pampanga to Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
Cannonball Run Circuit 2016: Run of a Lifetime
For the hundreds of participants, including car enthusiast/drivers Michael Sabido and Henry de Leon of Miata Club Philippines, Cannonball Run Circuit 2016 was the ultimate test of focus, endurance, and stamina.

TOTAL Excellium, the world’s leading fuel, was one of the proud sponsors of the premier motoring event. TOTAL Excellium, every driver’s trusted and reliable partner, wanted to prove that part of being a smart and responsible driver/ rider was ensuring that your vehicle is primed to conquer the road.

And with TOTAL, you will see the unique difference. Your engine will perform over and beyond expectation, maximizing fuel efficiency and delivering a smooth, clean run. Any race and road can be conquered.

Crossing the Finish Line

A second time participant, Henry de Leon, a car enthusiast since the age of 15, satisfied his need for speed by taking on the Cannonball 2016 with his Mazda Miata NB 1999-2000.

“The Cannonball event is a challenge for both man and machine. It requires physical preparation. You need the mental focus and quick thinking to navigate some of the hazardous roads along the way.” While the route provided all drivers scenic views of the country’s most beautiful landscapes, it also tested the mental and physical fitness of each participant.

“You have to be 100% focused and committed. You have to clear your mind of anything that could distract and cloud your judgement as a driver,” shared 39-year-old Michael Sabido, who conquered the run on his Mitsubishi Strada 2015.

“The experience was life-changing. It wasn’t only because I was able to finish it, but because I was able to share the experience and success with my brother, Mickz Sabido. We made history,” beamed Michael.

In endurance runs such as Cannonball 2016, which give participants only 24 hours to accomplish the route, drivers work in tandem, taking on shifts as they conquer the open road. “It’s a partnership of trust. The whole run is very tiring, but the adrenaline is there!” he adds. Confidence in your co-driver, in your machine, and in your fuel provider is key to winning.

While a man can expend his energies for only a few hours, his body eventually giving way to tiredness, fatigue and sleep, thankfully, TOTAL Excellium delivers 24-hour continued performance, even on rough and strenuous roads.

According to the two experienced drivers, it is not enough to prepare yourself mentally, physically and emotionally for the race, your automobile must be equally in tiptop shape to overcome the extreme challenge. And for this particular race, the two drivers looked to the best fuel provider in quality and performance, TOTAL Excellium

TOTAL Service, TOTAL Efficiency

Perfect for endurance races such as Cannonball 2016, TOTAL Excellium cleans and protects engines, delivers optimal engine performance, and has less carbon and harmful emissions compared to other competitor fuels. The result is a cleaner engine, which means greater performance from your car as it uses less fuel, lasts longer and produces fewer CO2 emissions. TOTAL Excellium is, indeed, the fuel of the new, modern driver, one that continues to deliver kilometer after kilometer.

“Vehicle preparation is vital for this kind of event. An engine running for 24-hours non- needs to be fined tuned and be in exceptional shape. TOTAL Excellium fueled my car all throughout the journey. My engine as able to reach and maintain peak performance because of the high grade quality of TOTAL petroleum,” shared Henry.

Michael added, “Total Excellium is awesome. I only filled up a total of P2,500, and we covered 1,200 kms of hard driving. The fuel is really efficient and keeps the engine running without delay. My fuel is my engine’s base foundation, and even after 24 hours, the performance never faltered. That’s the kind of quality I look for in my fuel and oil.”

Nissan GT Academy 2015 Recruitment Launch and Updates

Wednesday, May 06, 2015

The race is about to start. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Ready, Set, go! All the raging drag racing memories flashed back last month when I was invited to the GT ACADEMY LIVE RECRUITMENT EVENTS: REVVING UP TO HIGH SPEEDS. It was a whole day of fun and excitement for all the racing fanatics. I'm sure ya'll wondering by now why I went to the event and here I am sharing my past experiences as a gamer and as a racer?!

FUN FACT: I'm a frustrated race car driver. When I was in college, I'm one of the boys who will stay up late watching curiously how to modify car engines, set up audio sound systems, and haggle for car spare parts at Banawe. We have a group who joins PDRF (Philippine Drag Racing Federation) competition at North Harbour once a month. I'm one of those practicing how to properly shift gears without burning out or beating red light in the so-called Christmas Tree. If you're one of those who've witness how legal drag racing has been done here in our country and I'm sure you can relate with my stories if you love drag racing. Anyhoo, enough of my stories let me take you to the world of circuit racing. Another kind of racing that's been recently introduced by Nissan Philippines, Inc. Scroll down to see the event highlights and other information on the next recruitment dates!

Moi, with the game face on! Had this serious look after finishing a lap without an error. It's only a lap though. Hahaha! Enjoyed seven laps of turns :)
Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) recently introduced the GT Academy to the country, opening doors to Filipinos wanting to break into the racing profession. The recruitment is ongoing for the gamer who can apply his or her video racing skills to real-life circuit driving.

If you're a gamer who loves playing Gran Turismo and have mastered the game, why not prove your driving skills and compete in the real racetrack. The GT Academy is looking for 20 fastest gamers who will join Asia's best at the race camp in August at the prestigious Silverstone Racing Circuit in UK. This is the real deal baby because the qualifiers will be tested on their strength, stamina, mental agility and of course, driving skills. The emerging winner will join others from the different regions in a series of rigorous training under the Driver Development Program.

Nissan and PlayStation are looking for the finest to progress from virtual racing to the real world of racing for Nissan.

The photo below on your right shows the score board. It is the overall leaderboard and I'm sure those who joined the recruitment last April cannot contain their excitement as they look at their lap record. To date, the fastest lap time recorded in the Philippines is 1:02:762 and the slowest in the top 20 is 1:03:671. So far, 3,005 attempts have been recorded in the live recruitment events which started last April 10 and will run at various venues until June 28.

My heart was skipping and beating so fast because of  nervous and excitement as I entered the venue. It's really bringing back the old memories with a twist. From drag racing to circuit racing. Though not the real life action but seeing those simulation pods makes me sweat. My mind was in total amazement because after so many years, I've stepped inside these pods and tested my driving skills once again not on the strip but on the circuit. Yay!

Gran Turismo 6 PlayStation Simulation Pods
The event that I attended happened last April 24-26 at SM Sky Dome in SM North EDSA. To make the event more fun, the gorgeous celebrity Sam Pinto joined the hopeful gamers as she confidently slid into the driver seat of the simulator pod.

Sam Pinto's presence exuded girl power behind the wheel. For the record, Sam learned to drive when she was 16 years old and figured that with a little practice, she can clock a decent lap time and compete with the other gamers. “This is the closest I can get to being a race car driver, they told me it’s open to women too, so I thought I’d give it a shot,”Sam explained. “Driving on the simulator was a nice escape from traffic, it was fun to be able to just floor it!”she continued.

Are  you ready to show and prove your driving skills? The recruitment is still ongoing. Here's the timeline of the entire event to serve as your guide. So please spread the word to your family, relatives and friends! They're at SM SOUTHMALL LAS PINAS (May 6-10), and you've got until Sunday to show with Nissan GT Academy your skills! Next schedule will be posted at their Facebook page so be sure to visit the page from time to time. Leaderboard scores updates are posted in their wall too! GOOD LUCK to all joining!

Honda CLICK 125i: The Scooter of the Future Launch

Monday, February 23, 2015

Our country's been dealing with a heavy to no moving traffic along EDSA everyday. If you go to work and passing along EDSA, I'm sure you're sick and tired of this scenario, bumper to bumper traffic from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There are different means of transportation here in our country that we use to go to our destination and if you want to go to work the fastest and less hassle way, the only mode of transportation that you'll have in mind is to ride the motorcycle.

Last February 18, Honda Philippines Inc. officially announced the arrival of The New Honda Click 125i. Based on my observation, many Filipinos would choose a motorcycle over a 4 wheel sedan as their means of service going to work. It will take them faster and cost less fuel than a 4 wheel vehicle so choosing the so called "future of scooters" that is equipped with New Generation Intelligent 125cc global engine is a must! This scooter from Honda is very promising, CLICK CONTINUE READING to know the features that will make ride home one :)
