Buying Clothes for Your Man

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

If you are looking for a gift for the man in your life, clothes could be the perfect answer. Gone are the days when most men could fit all of the clothing that they owned into a large suitcase.

These days, most men like to shop just as much as their partners do. They want to look good and are more than prepared to invest time and money in doing so. As a result, they really appreciate receiving clothing gifts.

The only problem is that buying clothes for other people is not easy. Getting it right takes practice. To help you to get it right I have put together this simple guide.

Buying Clothes for Your Man

Bear in mind the person you are buying for

The first tip is to think about the person that you are buying the clothes for. You need to resist the temptation to buy the type of clothing you would like to see your partner wearing. It is far better to stick to what you know they like to wear. If you do not do this, all that will happen is that the items you buy will sit in the wardrobe unworn.

Keep the receipt

That brings me to my next point, which is that you should always keep the receipt and make it clear that you will not be offended if they decide to exchange your gift. You need to be realistic and bear in mind that you will not always be able to get it right.

Sizing

Some people can just look at someone and know what size they take. If you can do that, you are lucky. Most people do not have that skill.

Before you go out shopping, make a note of your partner’s sizes. The best way to do this is to make a mental note of any items of clothing that are a good fit and take the measurements from those.

If you want to you can just make a note of the label sizes, but a much better approach is to get the tape measure out. We suggest this because clothing sizes vary widely. What one retailer considers a large shirt could easily be labelled up as extra large by another shop.

The more measurements you take and use, the better. For example, when buying jeans for mens it is better to know the leg length as well as the waist size. Knowing both measurements considerably improves the chances of your buying jeans that fit well all over.

Buy items that fit in with what they already own

When deciding what to buy try to think about the clothes that your partner already owns. Ideally, you want anything that you buy to fit in with their current wardrobe. That way your clothing gifts are more likely to be worn on a regular basis.

Following the tips above when you buy clothes for your partner considerably improves the chances of your buying items that they will actually want to wear.
