The eyes may be small yet; they are a vital part of the body. While many people function and live amazing lives after losing an eye or both, it would make life much easier to see the world. If you still have yours, that means it’s not too late to take care of them.

If you don’t have a proper eye care routine yet, then here’s how to care for your eyesight properly. With all these in the bag, you can prevent loss of vision and also promote optimum functioning.

How to Properly Care For Your Eyesight
Eat Well

A healthy body starts with what you put in it. There are specific nutrients the eye needs to function correctly, e.g., vitamins C, zinc, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, etc. Some foods that contain these nutrients include fruits, salmon, vegetables, eggs, tuna, oysters, etc. Remember that a balanced diet is also essential.

A proper and balanced diet will help you stay healthy, reducing the risk of obesity, which could lead to diabetes and cataracts. Altogether, throw in some healthy fruits and veggies in your diet, you might just end up enjoying it.

Quit Smoking

Research shows that smokers have a high risk of losing their vision as it can damage the optic nerves. If you are currently fighting the habit, you can seek professionals who assist with overcoming addiction.

Wear Sunglasses

The sun is great; let’s get started with that. If you enjoy the great outdoors, the sun can be your perfect sidekick as long as you protect yourself from sunburns. However, exposure can also damage the eyes. Ultraviolet rays are among the major causes of the free radical damage that causes cataracts. So, opt for sunglasses that block UV rays significantly.

They aren’t just a great way to bring out your inner fashionista, but they can keep your eyes nice and healthy too. If you wear contact lenses, such as toric clariti xr, it's important to note that they don't protect you from UV rays. As such, you’ll have to wear sunglasses over them.

Use Safety Eyewear at Work

Sure, work is already stressful enough, why go out of your way to wear protective gear if it’s not stipulated? It goes without saying, if you work in a place where hazardous material can gain touch your eyes, don’t hesitate to gear up.

Even if you have a desk job, it's essential to either get a protective screen or get some glasses to guard against the blue light. All in all, look for ways to keep those eyes safe, your future self will thank you.

Avoid Prolonged Exposure to the Computer Screen

This is piggybacking off the last point. The bright rays from your computer or phone screen can cause strain, blurry vision, or headaches. If you work with a computer for long hours, an anti-glare screen would be an excellent idea. You should also rest your eyes after working on your computer for a long time. Staring at a computer or phone screen for an extended period can cause irreversible impairment.

Visit Your Eye Doctor

You don't have to wait until you have a challenge with your eyes before visiting a qualified medical professional. Everyone needs an eye exam regularly. Going in for regular check-ups can help you get ahead of any diseases or conditions you already have. In every case, early detection makes the situation easier to treat.

So, go ahead and book an appointment with an ophthalmologist or an Optometrist. They can both provide general care for your eyes, diagnose, and treat disease. But the latter do not engage in surgery if you need one.
