Product Review: COSMO Skin Kojic + Alpha Arbutin Soap

Saturday, November 02, 2013

I was delighted to see more than one variant of Cosmo Skin whitening soaps in the market today. More variants means more choices! Each variant is produced to meet specific skin care needs specially in the whitening department so for those who have a very sensitive skin, fret not because you can still use a lightening, whitening or brightening soap that will not aggravate your skin condition. It's very hard to choose a variant if you just consider whitening itself because there are other ingredients that are combined to the soap that will target specific skin care needs.

During the Cosmo Skin Event, I saw four variants of their whitening soap. I'm already familiar with the two (green and maroon box) because that was the first two variants that's sold locally at Watsons. When they introduced these two: Kojic + Alpha Arbutin and Collagen + Papaya, my eyes were glued on the first rather than the later because I'm a fan of kojic soaps and this variant also has Alpha Arbutin. To those who are new to Alpha Arbutin, it's one of the three powerful whitening ingredients in the world of soap today. It's widely used in soaps, face creams and lotions together with glutathione and kojic acid. So if the soap have these three, it's a surefire way that the product will deliver what it promises- lighter and even complexion. For those wondering while until now I'm using whitening soaps even if I'm fair enough to start with, then my answer would be maintenance and to even out my skin tone. Fair-skinned individuals like me would easily get burned in the sun with long hours of exposure. That's why I still need these soaps and the most important tandem to this are sunblocks! place bought: Watsons Health and Beauty Store Sm Fairview

What I Like:
  • It's affordable.
  • Easily accessible.
  • Doesn't melt fast.
  • The soap is big in size and lasted me for more than 1 month.
  • Produces a rich and thick lather.
  • My skin feels squeaky clean after use.
  • Made my skin tone even if I'm exposed to extreme heat of the sun every afternoon.
  • Easily accessible.
  • Batch, manufacturing and expiry date is printed on the box.
What I don't like:
  • The scent is a bit off for my liking.
Will I purchase? Yes the remaining variant that I haven't tried - Collagen and Papaya Soap.

Recommendation:
I give this a 4.25/5 rating. It's effective in maintaining my skin tone that's why I also let my husband try the soap. We both use the soap everyday and made a comparison on the color of his arm. The skintone on his arms are uneven because he usually drives from work to home around 11:00 in the morning where the sun strikes hot. He's not using any lotion or sunblock and the windows of our car is not tinted. While using the soap, I noticed that there's a bit of change on the color of his arm unlike before that it's so uneven. It lightened a bit but still the uneven skintone is there. So a little bit of advice, if you're into whitening it's still best to use the highest spf of sunblock as much as possible to counteract the reaction. Using whitening products without sunblock will make the skin darker than lighter.

@sherry ann gole cruz- try it dear, ok din sa guys yung soap as my hubby never experienced anything negative naman.

@Sheela Marie Castillo- most kojic soap melt easily, that's why this one is a good substitute :)

@Czjai Reyes-Ocampo- Can't describe the scent pero hindi kasi yung usual na orange scent na tulad sa mga kojic bars. parang may pagka powdery na safeguard type.

    1. Hi,

I cannot say what is the most effective. Madami kasi talaga not in the whitening one but in terms of lightening the skin lalo na dark marks. Pinaka-gusto ko na lagi ko ina-alternate is Kojiesan, Mosbeau, Ishigaki, Japonesa. Anything na may Kojic Acid saka Alpha Arbutin is okay for me.
