4 Best Things To Do in Singapore (After Pandemic- 18 to 24 months)

Friday, May 08, 2020

Singapore will always have a special place in my heart. The first country that I've been to thrice in a span of ten years- 2008, 2016, and 2019. I lived there for three months in 2008, joined the Safeguard Science Discovery Tour with my son last 2016, and had a short vacation with my family to celebrate my son's birthday last June. There are so many things to do in Singapore. Shopping at the famous shopping spot- Bugis Shopping Centre, eating and drinking to your heart's content at Hawker Centers, exploring Lion City from day to night to watch different attractions and many more!

However, all of these will be put on hold if you are planning to travel this year. According to health experts and travel authorities, it would take up to 18 to 24 months for the travel industry to recover, and traveling will never be the same again. There will be a lot of changes- expensive plane tickets, additional requirements aside from passport and visa, long hours from boarding to departure for necessary checks, and the list will go on before reaching your destination. Let's face reality and still hope for the best that this pandemic will be over soon so that we can all travel safely once we are really back to normalcy. Sharing 4 Best Things To Do in Singapore based on what we did last year :)

1. Satisfy Your Cravings

Eat your favorite Chinese, Indian, and Malaysian food at Hawker Centers! The Singaporean food scene is a fusion of different food cultures that mainly consist of noodles, rice, bread, chicken, pork, and seafood. But if you're in for some authentic Chinese cuisine, this country is ready to serve hot off the grill, mouth-watering, and savory dishes to satisfy the OG cravings. On our first night, we decided to eat dinner in one of the Hawker Center near our hotel at Aljunied. We ordered Chinese Fried Rice, Shrimp Omelette, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Chicken Wings. Everything is delicious! I can definitely smell and taste authentic Chinese food the moment it touched my lips. All I can say is yum!

2. Shop Souvenirs

Want to score cheap items in Singapore? Bugis is the place to be! According to ph.hotels.com, "Bugis Street Market is well-known for being one of the cheapest places in Singapore for sourcing your souvenirs, accessories, clothes, electronics, houseware, and cosmetics. Many of the little trinkets here such as keychains, postcards, and stationery are available from as little as S$1. Truly, it is the shopping heaven if you're in for an awesome shopping experience. We bought some of our pasalubongs in a random store inside the street market.

3. Discover Changi Terminal 4

Discover the breath-taking beauty of Singapore's very own Changi Terminal 4. Terminal 4 (T4), began operations in October 2017 and has won many accolades both locally and overseas. These include Design Of The Year in the President’s Design Award 2017/18, the Universal Design Mark (Platinum) Award by the Building & Construction Authority, and the Singapore Good Design (Platinum) Award by the Design Business Chamber Singapore. Aside from the design, there are so many things to do inside like shopping tax-free! Looking for sweets? Shop chocolates at Cocoa Tree inside Terminal 4. A chocolate lover’s haven, The Cocoa Trees offers the widest range of international brands under its various retail outlets and concessionaires. Some of the famous brands it carries include M&M’s, Toblerone, Cote Dor, and Ritter Sport. There is also a range of premium chocolates such as Leonidas and Neuhaus for the chocolate connoisseur. Cocoa Tree also carries limited edition chocolates and other collectibles. Kenzo got this Kinder Joy collectible for 50% off.

4. Visit Legoland Malaysia

The main reason why we went to Singapore last June 2019 was to celebrate my son's birthday at Legoland Malaysia and the fastest way to get there is from Singapore. If we will be coming all the way from Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur Airport), it will take around 8 hours by bus before reaching Legoland. So after a month of research before our departure, I decided to book roundtrip airline tickets to Singapore via Cebu Pacific.

If you are planning to visit Singapore with Legoland Malaysia in your itinerary, it's better to plan a 5-day visit so you can have the luxury of time to do a lot of things in two countries in one go. I will share more details on how we got to Legoland Malaysia from Singapore on my next post. I hope everyone is safe and sound at home. Let's all pray that this pandemic will be over soon. I know all of you are excited to get back to normal life but after this lockdown and quarantine, we will face a new normal that will change our lives and the way we travel in the days to come. Stay safe!

What's the best thing to do in Singapore?

Good Times!~
