What Motherhood Taught Me About Running a Business

     One afternoon at our café, I was busy clearing and wiping down tables after our customers finished their meals, replying to a brand email on my phone. As I looked around, I saw Kenzo quietly doing his homework at one of the tables. Now and then, he would look up, smile at me, and continue writing. It was such a simple moment, but it made me pause and reflect on how far we've come.

     Years ago, I wasn't sure I could be both a good mom and an entrepreneur. Today, I still don't have everything figured out, but moments like this remind me I don't have to be perfect. I just have to do my best every day for my family, our small café, and my work as a content creator. Looking back, I realize that many of the lessons I learned as a mom have also made me a better business owner.

Patience Goes a Long Way

     As parents, we know that children grow at their own pace. You can't rush them to walk, learn, or gain confidence. You guide, support, and trust that they will get there. Running a business is much the same.

     There were days when our café didn't have many customers. There were also times when I pitched to brands and didn't get a reply, or when I worked hard on content that didn't deliver the results I expected. Before becoming a mom, I would probably have been discouraged. But motherhood taught me patience. Not every good thing happens right away. Sometimes, success comes from showing up every day and doing the small things consistently.

Learning to Stay Calm

     If you're a parent, you know that not everything goes as planned. A school activity suddenly changes, your child gets sick, and some plans have to be moved. As moms, we learn to adjust. The same thing happens in business. Suppliers can be delayed, deadlines can change, and equipment can suddenly stop working. Instead of panicking, I stay calm and think of an alternative solution to unexpected problems. Motherhood taught me that it's okay when things don't go as planned. What matters is how we respond and keep moving forward.

Kindness Matters

     One lesson Kenzo has taught me is to be more patient and understanding. As parents, we know everyone has their own struggles, even when we can't see them. I try to carry that mindset into my business. Whether I'm serving customers at our café or working with brands as a content creator, I remind myself to listen first, be kind, and treat people with respect. People may forget what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.

You Don't Have to Do Everything Alone

     When we started our café, I thought I had to do everything myself. I wanted to manage the business, create content, answer messages, and still be the best mom I could be. It didn't take long before I felt tired and overwhelmed. There were times I suddenly broke down after trying to do everything in one sitting and ended up asking my husband for help.

     It reminded me of my early years as a mom, when I believed that asking for help meant I wasn't doing enough. Now I know that's not true. Asking for help doesn't make us weak. It helps us take better care of ourselves so we can take better care of our families and our businesses.

A Good Community Makes a Big Difference

     One of the best things that has helped me on my journey is being part of Madiskarte Moms PH. It's a community where moms support one another, share practical business tips, and inspire each other to keep growing. As a content creator, I've also connected with fellow moms who generously share ideas, opportunities, and encouragement.

     Being part of a supportive community reminds me that we don't have to do everything alone. Sometimes, hearing someone say, "I've been through that too," is all the encouragement we need to keep moving forward as moms and entrepreneurs.

     These days, I can manage my work from almost anywhere. At the café, I'm replying to client emails, uploading content, checking social media, ordering supplies, and staying in touch with Kenzo. That's why reliable internet has become part of my daily routine.

     It helps me finish my work faster, join online meetings without worry, and stay connected with my clients and family. It also lets me promote our café online and respond quickly to online orders. For me, reliable connectivity isn't just about having the internet. It's one of the things that helps me manage my business while still being present for my family.

To Every Mom Who Dreams of Starting a Business

     If you've been thinking about starting a business but keep telling yourself you're not ready, I want to encourage you to take that first step. Being a mom has already taught you valuable skills you can apply to business. Every day, you solve problems, manage your time, make difficult decisions, and keep going even when things don't go as planned. Don't compare your journey to anyone else's. Start where you are, celebrate every small win, and don't be afraid to ask for help when needed.

     Most of all, believe in yourself. Your child isn't just watching you build a business; they're watching you chase your dreams, work hard, and never give up. By following your passion and showing resilience, you're teaching them that it's okay to dream big and work toward the life they want. For me, that's one of the greatest lessons we can pass on to our children.
