1. Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate isn’t just delicious, it can be great for your skin too. Chocolate contains compounds called flavonols that act as strong antioxidants, and may also have a hydrating effect on your skin. The darker the chocolate the higher the amount of these flavonols, so choose a chocolate with a high cacao percentage to get all of the skin benefits.

2. Orange and yellow fruits and vegetables

Veggies in the orange/yellow hue are rich with a strong antioxidant called carotenoids. Carotenoids may help protect against skin UV damage from the sun as well as potentially improving tone, brightness, and firmness. Pick out some bell peppers, squash, carrots, oranges, and apricots during your next shopping trip to give your skin a boost.

3. Green tea

4. Olives

Olives aren’t just tasty briny flavor bombs, they are actually an antioxidant packed fruit too. With oleic acid and vitamin E found in olives, they may help hydrate and nourish the skin, while helping to protect it from the sun’s skin-damaging UV rays.

5. Oats

Oats may have a two-fold benefit for skin, when applied and when eaten. You can apply oats to the face to help soak up dirt and oil while soothing and reducing inflammation. Or, you can eat oats on the regular to benefit from their high vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant levels.

6. Garlic

Garlic isn’t just a must in everyday cooking for its great flavor, it packs a pretty powerful skin punch too. Garlic has antioxidant, antifungal, antiviral, and antiseptic properties, along with increasing blood flow throughout your body, including the skin on your face.

7. Walnuts

Walnuts are a great plant source of hydrating and moisturizing omega 3s. This omega 3s may also help reduce inflammation in the skin, say during a breakout, and may help reduce UV damage from the sun.

8. Berries

Berries are antioxidant powerhouses to help your skin protect itself from damaging UV rays. Also, many berries like strawberries have high levels of vitamin C, which can help boost your skin collagen production, leading to supple, firm, and youthful skin.

9. Tomatoes

Tomatoes aren’t just a kitchen staple, they are great for your skin too. Tomatoes are high in vitamin C and potassium and help to contribute to your skin’s healthy glow. In addition, tomatoes are a huge source of lycopene, known for its antioxidant properties.

10. Leafy greens

Your parents probably told you to eat your leafy greens to be healthy, but you maybe didn’t know that your skin is included too. Leafy greens are full of minerals and vitamins including A, C, and K, in addition to packing a large antioxidant punch. Mix a handful of leafy greens into a berry smoothie to help disguise the taste if you aren’t normally a fan of your greens.

Eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and seeds in a rainbow of colors will not only supply your body with what it needs to be healthy, but your skin will glow too.
