4 Mosquito Repellents to Try Here in the Philippines

Saturday, March 21, 2020

PAGASA, the official Meteorological and Hydrological Services agency of the Philippines declared last weekend the start of dry season or summer here in the country. Get ready with your umbrellas, sunglasses, sunscreen and other stuff that protects and prevents you from UV rays. As of this writing, I can really feel the summer vibes- hot humid air and a little sweat on my forehead even if I'm just sitting and scrolling through one of my social network sites.

Aside from these, I'm adding extra protection and prevention from a dangerous infectious tropical disease that scares me and my family the most. This is no other than Dengue fever! Dengue according to WHO is a mosquito-borne viral infection, if not given proper medical care will lead to death. Scary but true. I myself became a victim not once but twice and I'm lucky because I survived. I don't want that to happen again! I'm always praying that it will not happen to my only son. It's too dangerous for him to have this disease because he has G6PD (click to know more) that's why a mosquito repellent is a MUST for us. Anyhoo, sharing four 4 Mosquito Repellents to Try Here in the Philippines that we are using at home and more information about these products after the jump :)

4 Mosquito Repellents to Try Here in the Philippines

According to mosquito.org
Repellents are substances that help people avoid mosquito bites. Anyone working or playing in mosquito-infested areas will find repellents very helpful. Repellents are formulated for use on bare skin. They are sold as aerosols, creams, solids (sticks), pump sprays and liquids. Use repellents containing ingredients such as diethyl phthalate, diethyl carbate; N, N-Diethyl-3-Methylbenzamide (DEET), metofluthrin, oil of lemon-eucalyptus, picaridin and ethyl hexanediol.
Bite Block, Human Heart Nature, Tiger Balm, and MoskiShield. All of these became essential in shielding our skin from nasty mosquito and insect bites. We use these alternately depending on the weather and the activity we have for the day. Kenzo loves MoskiShield Insect Repellent Spray because of the scent and the cooling effect it gives the skin upon application.

Bite Block Insect Repellent Lotion has a semi runny texture

This lotion-based insect repellent has a semi-thick runny texture. It has a subtle baby powder fresh scent. I like that it's non-greasy compared to their commercially known competitors. For those who are asking, the distributor says it has a low amount of DEET and the expiration is 3 years starting from the date of manufacture. The good thing about Bite Block is that it can also repel other insects especially if you the type who's always prone to insect bites.

Human Heart Nature Skin Shield Oil has a runny texture

This cruelty-free, no parabens, synthetic fragrances, mineral oil, and other toxic chemicals insect repellent has been with us since time immemorial. The relaxing spa-like citronella scent lingers whenever we apply this at home. It's made from oil mixtures that has a runny texture which is easy to apply. Because it's oil-based, we find it heavy during summer so we only apply a little amount and adjust the application time. I'm glad that they already have the G6PD version of this specially made for those who are allergic to soybean oil.

MoskiShield Mosquito Repellent Spray

MoskiShield Mosquito Repellent Spray gives a cooling effect once sprayed on the skin. It has a light texture too.

MoskiShield is becoming another fave because of the scent. It has a light vanilla scent that is not overpowering. We love that it comes in a spray bottle that is handy and travel-friendly. The texture is water-like and has a cooling effect once sprayed on the skin. It's light and non-greasy making it a must-have this summer season. I just wish that it comes in a bigger size because of 60 ml will run out fast for someone like us who are prone to mosquito bites.

Tiger Balm Mosquito Repellent Spray is an oil-based spray that has a thick runny texture

I was surprised when I saw Tiger Balm Mosquito Spray on display at Watsons Store while replenishing my personal care products.  I have no intention of buying a mosquito repellent that day because I still have a lot to finish on my stash but the 'natural' word printed on the bottle sparked the curiosity in me and got sold.  If we want something strong in terms of scent, we reach out for this bottle. The citronella scent lingers once applied and spread evenly on the skin.

These are my highly recommended brands of mosquito repellents here in the Philippines. I've seen some mommy bloggers give positive reviews on the brands mentioned above. Summer season is fun and exciting because kids are on vacation and have the pleasure of time playing indoors or outdoors. Be sure to protect them from mosquito and insect bites by wearing proper clothes and applying mosquito repellents all the time.
