Does CBD Hemp Oil Get You High?

Sunday, October 20, 2019

A common reason why people seem to keep way from CBD oil is the fact that they believe it will make them high. The short answer is no, CBD oil does not make you high. But in order to understand why CBD does not have any psychoactive effects, one must first understand what cannabidiol is and what is the difference between CBD and THC.

Does CBD Hemp Oil Get You High?

What is CBD oil?

CBD or Cannabidiol is one of the two chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. CBD can be extracted from the cannabis plant, isolated and then mixed with coconut oil or other types of oil to make CBD oil. It can also be used to make edibles, which are another popular method for ingesting CBD. Moreover, CBD is mostly extracted from hemp, not from the marijuana plant, and hemp has no psychoactive effects at all.

Research has shown that CBD oil can have some incredible effects on reducing anxiety levels, help battle depression, improve the quality of sleep and reduce pain. Those effects are tied to the way CBD links to the endocannabinoid system in your body, which has two receptors: CB1 and BC2. The CB1 receptors play a big role in the healthy functioning of your brain and are commonly found in the nervous system. CB2 receptors are found in the cells of the immune system and help with inflammations and the body’s response to pathogens.

Cannabinoids: CBD vs THC

As mentioned above, the cannabis plant has two chemical compounds: THC and CBD. The main difference between them is that CBD has no psychoactive effects, while THC is responsible for the high felt when using marijuana. Both chemicals are similar to the natural endocannabinoids in your body, which is why they can interact with the cannabinoid receptors so well.

But can you get high from cannabidiol (CBD) only? While CBD can help you feel more relaxed and calm, it does not make you high. In fact, CBD can actually diminish the effect of THC, as it can interfere with the way THC binds to the CB1 receptors in the brain.

Possible side effects

While CBD oil does not get you high, people who have used it did report some mild side effects, especially when they ingested high doses. The side effects can include mild nausea, fatigue, dizziness, and dry mouth.

While those effects are not severe and do not pose any danger to your health, they are still worth mentioning, so that you can understand what happens in case you experience any of them.

These mild side effects do not diminish the beneficial factors that CBD has on those who use it. Also, CBD can also diminish some of the effects that certain types of medicine have, and may cause them to be less beneficial. This is why, if you take any type of medicine, you should do proper research to see if CBD has any effects on the treatment, or if it can be safely used simultaneously.
