I'm not a picky eater that's why when there's a new restaurant offering unique dishes, trust me I will exert extra effort to visit the place and try what's on the menu. I presume you've already heard that some restaurants offer a fusion of dishes from east and west. This time, a fine dining restaurant offers a fusion of Eastern and southeastern European food that will entice a foodie's taste buds. Enter Akrotiri Modern Eurasian Cuisine

Last June 1, I had the privilege to attend the Akrotiri VIP Bloggers' Night and got to try almost all the food offerings on their menu. I have a few favorites and I will tell you more about them below. But first, know more about Akrotiri and why they landed here to bring the best of modern Eurasian cuisine below :)

Akrotiri is the amalgamation/fusion of coastal food cultures from all over the world. The Filipino’s discerning palate has been cultivated by embracing local, foreign, and progressive cooking concepts. The Greek spelling Ακρωτήρι means cape as in the cape of good hope or peninsula, these areas are surrounded on three sides by water but have a strong connection to the land. This is exemplified by our food development using a classic Greek heritage of Mediterranean triad themes that overlap with Malay, Oriental and European influence.

Akrotiri Modern Eurasian Cuisine Experience

The event is not just an ordinary food event. It was a night of story-telling, exchanging of thoughts on the fusion and learning all about the restaurants' offering through fun activities plus we personally met the people behind this Eurasian culinary concept.

We wanted to bring our knowledge to the Philippines and use all the incredible food that’s in the East and blended it with the West,” said Akrotiri General Manager, David Jones.
It's a food coma kind of night. Like what I said above, almost everything in the menu was served. But before the tasting part, menu items were exhibited separately, plated attractively for every event-goer’s delight and indulgence.

The spread was not just an ordinary showcase of the best-selling food items on the menu. They served around 90% of what's on the menu from soups, salads, mezze, mains from the land, mains from the sea, and desserts.

The salads- on a diet? Akrotiri offers healthy salads that will satisfy your veggie cravings. Choose from Quiona with cucumber, corn, carrot, ginger, cabbage, chives, and lemon dressing or Organic salad with mixed greens, vegetables, sunflower seeds, and citrus dressing.

The soup entries- Eurasian Sour Soup and Souvlaki Skewers plus the Thai Prawn Tom Yum and Curry Soup. The latter is perfect for those who love curry and been wanting to try the infamous Tom Yum soup from Thailand. Look at those prawns, big enough to satisfy a rumbling tummy!

The mezze (appetizers) - Wagyu Burger with Cheese, Shitake Mushrooms, Caramelized Onions, and Rustic Fries, Hokkaido Smoked Salmon Sandwich with spinach, yogurt, honey, and dill is one of my favorites because of Salmon! You can also try the Sisig Tacos with pork belly, peppers, lettuce, and red cabbage, Wagyu Corned Beef with turmeric mashed potatoes, fried kale, and aioli wasabi.

If you are into seafood and want a filling soup, the Seafood Tagliatelle with Clams, Mussels, Prawns, Squid, and Tomatoes will bring you to sea goodness heaven.      It's also a night of free-flowing drinks, specialty drinks to be exact that was created from a unique blend infused with flavors of diverse influences. I had a sip of Tequila Sunrise and Mojito which are my default drink orders whenever we go on a night out. Surprisingly, Akrotiri is also making other cocktails like Manhattans and Espresso Martini. Traditional drinks from the British Isles were served together with Bloody Marys and Pimms & Lemonade. There's also a selection of Gin with some creative combos such as a Rose Gin with dried chili, Gin Mare with mango & pepper and Portobello Road Gin with summer fruits.
