Therefore, I (still) Blog

Friday, November 05, 2021

Should I thank Barney because I got the inspiration from one of his songs for the title of this blog or my skin-related concerns for being a lurker in the blogosphere several years ago that decided me to blog? There are so many things to be thankful for to where I am now. It has been x years since I started this humble blog and if my memory serves me right, it all started when I got bored from playing online games and being a silent reader of my favorite bloggers.

It's from these amazing ladies- writing about beauty, fashion, and lifestyle topics in their respective blogs where I learned a lot about the basics of blogging. Their product reviews and skincare must-haves had taught me how to choose the right products for my skincare needs. It's from them that I learned how to check the labels and scrutinize the ingredients before buying them. This made me save money from wasting beauty products that will only irritate my sensitive skin. Their hauls were my "what's popping?" in my next beauty purchase list. These ladies kept me updated from the must-haves in the drugstore and high-end brand departments. Because of this, I decided to write my own blog and the rest is history. Sharing some of the things I learned as a blogger and influencer over the past years and what trends to expect in 2022.

Lessons and Things I've Learned in Blogging

1. Be Yourself

When I published my first article, a random friend asked why I started blogging. I suddenly blurted out "to share my experience about the product." I like buying personal care products out of curiosity and when I discovered something worth sharing, I always make a product review. It's a nice feeling when someone commends you about the article you wrote, how it helped them even if it's in a small way. I feel happy when a problematic girl has finally found the right product to solve her problem because of my blog.

2. Quality Over Quantity

So you got the latest gears to create content and you have the nicest blog theme out there but is your content worth reading? Always produce content your readers will get excited about. Don't write something because it's a trend or you just want to jump into the bandwagon. You'll feel accomplished because you wrote something that your readers bookmark, or go to when they need something that will guide them in their daily life.

3. It's YOU vs YOU

The only competition you have is yourself and this is one of the best things I've learned as a blogger. I like reading other blogs and look up to them as inspiration. As years pass by, I've come to realize that I don't need to compete with other bloggers in the same niche because I have my own style, I know what I can and cannot give to my readers, I know my capabilities, my strengths, and my weaknesses. I'm glad that blogging has helped me improve my grammar, develop critical thinking, and regain my self-confidence as I produce different topics for my content.

4. Change Is Inevitable

Learn to adapt to new things, skills, and set of people you'll meet along the way. Sometimes, writing a product review is not enough. If the situation calls, you need to demonstrate the usage through actions that's why you also need to learn how to shoot videos. If you want to grow as a content creator, you need to go out of your comfort zone and adapt to the ever-changing world.

5. You Can't Please Everyone

If you encounter someone who does not agree with what you've written, just shut your eyes to their criticism as long as you know that you're doing the right thing. Our experience with the world or how we see things will always be subjective. It's like what I always say in my product review that what works for me may not work for you or vice versa.

6. Arm Yourself with 3 P's

If you want to be a successful blogger in your chosen niche, always have these virtues in life-Persistence, Perseverance, and Patience. It's not always a walk in the park. Choosing blogging as a career has ups and downs. There are days that you are inspired to write, there are days that you can't even finish a single sentence in your entry. If you want to make blogging your bread and butter, make sure that you continue something in spite of difficulty and struggle, a continuation of commitment by still producing quality content in spite of the lack of success, and the capacity to accept hindrances without getting upset.

This photo was taken at one of the events that I attended as a blogger.

1. Social Media Network Sites

When I started blogging several years ago, the only source of information that I see online was from other websites and blogs. Only a few bloggers have social media networks. Lo and behold, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are now the widely sought-after platforms of brands for their bloggers and influencers. Brands are partnering with bloggers and influencers to produce content on their respective social media network sites. Let's not forget about TikTok and YouTube, if you have what it takes to showcase your talent through short clips and videos, better start creating your accounts and upload now.

2. Visual Content Marketing

Prolly you've seen posters, product guides, and infographics on one or two websites that you visited recently. This type of blogging trend will be more visible in the coming years. Who doesn't love following short but meaningful images? It's definitely the kind of photo that you can see, hear, smell, and feel.

3. Affiliate and Email Marketing

Some companies and brands are now looking into these types of marketing platforms. Affiliate and email marketing are slowly gaining popularity when the pandemic started as almost everyone has resorted to online shopping. e-Commerce platforms are now interested in partnering with bloggers and social media influencers who are also interested to join their affiliate marketing. A small portion of the sales will go to the blogger or influencer once the buyer clicks on the affiliate link and succeeds in buying the product.

So there you go, these are the lessons and things that I learned as a blogger. The experiences over the past years have taught me a lot and going back to my very first article "To blog or not to blog?" all I can say is that I'm excited to see what's in store for me in 2022 therefore, I (still) blog.

Good Times!~
