     Let our Monday grocery shopping more sustainable by saying NO to plastic bags and use eco-friendy bags instead. If you’re still using single-use plastic when you shop for groceries, Puregold hopes you will switch to eco bags, which are more environment-friendly and cost-efficient.

     Puregold re-implements Walastik Mondays or Walang Plastik Mondays at all its stores in the National Capital Region (NCR). This means no plastic bags will be provided every Monday. Customers are encouraged to bring in their own reusable bags to reduce the use of plastic, giving a Php1 cashback for every eco bag used by Perks and Tindahan Ni Aling Puring members, who can earn up to Php5 in savings for every transaction.

     With the program enjoying tremendous acceptance from shoppers, the supermarket chain is expanding #WalangPlastik days to include Monday and Wednesday at all Puregold stores nationwide, starting September 26, 2022.

     Just after one month since its launch last July 11, Puregold already saved more than 110,000 plastic bags in NCR, and feedback from the stores has been very encouraging. With the campaign, Puregold continues to encourage its loyal customers to live by the mantra that “recycling is good, but not generating waste is even better.”

     Almost half of Puregold stores have either discontinued the use of single-use plastic bags or transitioned to more sustainable materials such as recycled carton boxes or eco bags. According to Puregold's President Vincent Co, Puregold's goal is to be a mindful company that, reuses, recycles, and reduces whatever resources are available; and encourages its customers to do the same. Today’s customers are more aware and they’re always looking for ways on how to reduce their use of plastics and make their shopping sustainable.

Avoiding the use of single-use plastics while grocery shopping is a small step in the right direction and Puregold hopes it will gain traction so more and more Filipinos will bring their own bags not only on Mondays and Wednesdays but every day of the week.
