Essential Embrocation and Liniment Oil Brands in the Philippines

Wednesday, January 13, 2021

I'm not sure when was the exact day that I heard the words Tito and Tita essentials but when these became word of the mouth a couple of years ago, there are a few things that we associate with them. One of the most popular essentials that have been linked to a Tito and a Tita is embrocation or liniment oil, yes?! These essentials are a must-have in every Tito's bag or Tita's purse and prolly you will agree that we (yes, I'm a certified Tita) can never have too many embrocation and essential oils at home.

If my memory serves me right, I've been using embrocation and liniment oils since I was in high school because of vascular headaches and migraine attacks. I'm not new to these essentials and I have tried many brands in the past already. I have a love-hate relationship with some brands because of minor side effects like an intolerable burning sensation when applied to the temples of my head or skin irritation. Other than that, I love the cooling, relaxing, and comforting feeling whenever I use or apply them for aches and pains. Sharing a short feature of the brands that became a mainstay in my Tita essentials stash below.

Essential Embrocation and Liniment Oil Brands in the Philippines

Embrocation or Liniment (from Wikipedia) is a medicated topical preparation for application to the skin. Sometimes called a heat rub, liniments may be water-like in viscosity or formulated as a lotion or balm and are usually rubbed in to allow for penetration of the active ingredients. Patches, sticks, and sprays are also available. Here in the Philippines, there are different kinds available that can be purchased over-the-counter in leading drugstores, department stores, convenience stores, and online. Here are my highly recommended 7 Essential Embrocation and Liniment Oil Brands:

Essential Embrocation and Liniment Oil Brands in the Philippines

1. YogaLove Cooling Cream- my favorite all-around 'pamahid' for all things body pain. There are so many things to love with YogaLove Cooling cream because of its versatility. The creamy texture is like that of an arnica cream which is easy to apply during body massage. It absorbs quickly and gives a soothing effect on tired muscles and joint pains. I also use this whenever I have a vascular headache and when I feel dizzy.

  • features: A cooling cream that relieves tired muscles and joints. Experience the cooling and rejuvenating effects of menthol and chamomile during practice, Shavasana, or body massage. It has a non-greasy texture, making it ideal to apply right after yoga or any fitness activity
  • ingredients: Purified Water, Vegetable Glycerin, Sugarcane Alcohol, Menthol, Camphor, Aloe Vera Extract and Ginseng Extract
  • instructions for use: Gently massage into skin until absorbed.
  • size: 200g and 100g tub
  • price: P550 and P375

2. Golden Cup Oil- my so-called tiny but mighty oil for severe headache attack. Golden Cup offers a range of products in different form factors and for different usage scenarios. Golden Cup Balm, the flagship product, has been the trusted product of the company for over 70 years. Golden Cup Oil is a product equally as effective as the famous balm but due to being a liquid is able be offered as a spray or a roller too. The nature of the liquid shape also allows for Golden Cup Oil to evaporate faster, providing a quicker solution for nasal congestion. I have tried both the balm and the oil but the oil wins in terms of absorption and strength.
  • features: Effectively relieves muscular pain, insect bites, headaches, dizziness, nasal congestion, and more; uses naturally sourced and high-quality ingredients, features a unique fragrant scent; packed in a light and travel-friendly tin, safe for both children and adults, FDA and Halal certified

Apply the balm on the base of the nostrils and inhale to relieve nasal congestion. For headaches, dizziness, and faintness, massage the balm onto your temples. • size: 3ml and 7ml
  • price: P54 and P103
  • place bought: online at Lazada Philippines

3. JAP-STICK Embrocation- the best embrocation brand in a stick form that I've tried to date. It does not break easily when accidentally dropped or thrown. I love that it comes in two handy sizes, and their small size is the tiniest that I've seen so far as it can fit the watch pocket of your jeans. The menthol crystal does not crumb easily or melt fast when accidentally placed in high temperatures.
  • features: For headache, stiffness, dizziness, insect bites, burns. It can also be used as inhaler
  • ingredients: menthol
  • instructions for use: Rub the stick on the affected area.

4. White Flower Embrocation- a no-brainer embrocation that's so popular in the Philippines. I saw this inside my grandmother's purse, my aunt's bag, my mother's drawer. It is indeed a legend when it comes to soothing relief for headaches, stuffy nose, muscle pain, dizziness, motion sickness, and insect bites. The aroma of white flower is unique that my uber-sensitive nose can tell in an instant if a person has applied or been applying White Flower whenever they're near me.

6. POY-SIAN Mark II Inhaler- I discovered this embrocation oil/inhaler on one of our trips to Hong Kong three years ago. I'm having a migraine attack that time but unfortunately, I lost the embrocation oil inside my pocket on our way to the hotel. There are so many Chinese drugstores along Nathan Road that's why we decided to ask for their highly recommended brand in one of the stores. The sales assistant handed me this product and the rest is history. I'm glad that there are many resellers of this on Shopee, no need to travel abroad to get hold of this. Yay!
  • features: Contains a mixture of essential oils, herbs, and salts that can be used as a simple solution to help relieve nasal congestion, refresh the body and mind, and also get rid of dizziness and fainting. Inhalers are very popular in Thailand and everyone has at least one. This is due to their convenience and fast action of refreshing the body, mind, and curing a wide variety of symptoms.

  • size: 3ml
  • price: P76
  • place bought: Make You Blush/ Chimiyuki on Shopee

7. Tolak Angin Care- a recent discovery that instantly made into my essential oil must-haves. It instantly relieves vascular headaches and helps me fall asleep faster when I'm in pain. The refreshing citrusy-like scent makes Tolak Angin Care Essential Roll-On different from the ones I have in my stash that's why I'm so digging it.

Following the heritage of Tolak Angin, this product uses natural wonder herbs that give a long-lasting aroma and sensation.      So there you go, these are my current favorites and the ones I have in my stash. I literally have essential embrocation oils in almost all parts of our house. I have two beside the bed, one in my belt bag, two in front of my laptop, one in the receiving room, and one in the kitchen. Hahaha! I'm a certified Tita with all these embrocation oils at home. All of the brands I mentioned above are available online or in the physical stores here in the Philippines.

What's your recommended brand of essential embrocation and liniment oils?

    1. My good friend gave me a Jap-stick long ago and I could never find anything nearly as good. We're in Minnesota, USA and so sad to not be able to order it from anywhere. She went to visit family in the Philippines before lockdown and lucky me she brought back the larger size to give to me. I'm curious to try the white flower again (she also has had this and I've tried it) but recently have become obsessed with white flower scent so maybe I'll love this one too. Fun article to read and I'll look up the other brands and maybe I can find them here. My little Jap-stick has become a must have as I get headaches from staring at bright screens at my job causing headaches and it really helps. -Caitlyn
