     Kenzo loves watching television most especially if the program is educational. He's easily distracted when there are puppets, singing, and dancing in front of television that's why when he heard the them song of Hi-5 first thing in the morning, he will immediately rise in bed.

     So when I've heard that there will be a Filipino version of Hi-5, we're all smiles and excited to watch the show in our own language. I'm more happy and excited to announce that Hi-5 Philippines will be having a school tour nationwide.      Followers of this generation’s edutainment program of choice, Hi-5 Philippines, are getting a chance to experience the exciting and fun-filled learning activities that the vibrant cast has to offer as it sets out on a nationwide school tour. Hi-5 members Gerard, Aira, Rissey, Alex and Fred are gracing school events with their trademark bopping performances of all-time favorite Hi-5 songs.

     The Hi-5 Philippines nationwide school tour is a way for kids to get up-close and personal with the cast, as they bring their upbeat songs and creative dances for kids to see live. Aside from showcasing their musical prowess, the cast will also incorporate cool learning segments through workshops and games.

     The Metro Manila leg of the school tour started in August at St. Paul College Pasig, wherein preschoolers were treated to a morning of singing, dancing and adventures, capping off their “Buwan ng Wika” celebration. The cast followed through by visiting the preschoolers in Miriam College, St. Mary’s Academy-Caloocan, Sienna College–Taytay, and Makati Hope Christian School, to name a few.

     There are still a lot of opportunities to catch the cast on tour. They are scheduled to throw a Hi-5 party at Assumption College in Antipolo, Hope Christian High School, and Golden Acres Elementary School in October. After its Manila run, TV5 aims to bring the Hi-5 experience to every kid across the country by rolling the school tour to private and public schools in the provinces.

It continues with the Live To Move Tour, a series of health and wellness-themed pocket events around Metro Manila which includes group activities called Move to the Beat (Hip Hop), Move to the Groove (Zumba), Move to Fight (boxing and cardio), and Move to the FWD Motion (MetaFit). It will culminate on October 24 with the Live To Move Grand Festival where participants will enjoy exciting activities and rewards in surrounding booths for free medical consultation, cooking sessions, group workouts, and a free-for-all wellness concert.

The Global Mala Project

The Global Mala Project, the largest unified worldwide yoga event, will occur on September 26th, in line with the United Nation’s Day of Peace and the Fall Equinox at WhiteSpace Manila.

The Global Mala Project

     Dedicated to promote peace and positive change through yoga, as well as raise social consciousness and funds for noteworthy causes, The Global Mala Project is Teresa Hererra’s annual heart project. Seeking to create a “mala around the earth,” (In traditional yoga, a mala is a set of beads, used to focus awareness during meditation) she was inspired by her yoga mentor and the Global Mala Project’s founder Shiva Rea, to bring the event to our shores. As a model, environmentalist, and yoga teacher, Teresa shares the vision of her mentor in creating a positive energy through yoga that would pulsate around the world. In the recent months, she has been working closely with event producers and yoga centers around Manila to ensure the success of this event. All of the event collaborators are doing the work completely pro-bono, to ensure that 100 % of its proceeds go to charity. This year’s event will benefit Children’s International.

     Yoga is a union of body and mind. When you practice yoga, you put yourself in a state of openness and grace. From this place, mindfulness stems and we make conscious decisions for ourselves and for our world around us,” she emphatically shares. While the beads of the mala allow an individual to focus during meditation, it is the hope of the organizers ofthe Global Mala Project to create a chain of connection and compassion among those who will be a part of it. “There is no pre-requisite to begin this practice. Just an open mind and an open heart. Hope to see you on the mat,” is Teresa’s message to the class attendees.

     Nearly one baby every hour each day dies abruptly. An estimated 7,000 babies die each year without warning.[i]

     Parents are left clueless after the death as the possible causes remain unknown even after undergoing autopsy. All because of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). 

     SIDS is the unexplained death of babies usually occurring during sleep and striking under unexpected circumstances. 

     Even a healthy one-year old baby may be a victim of the condition which is often simply attributed to physical and environmental factors.

     Studies have shown that babies with physical conditions including brain abnormalities, low birth weight and respiratory infection have higher risk of dying an unexplained death. 

     Still some studies indicated that an infant’s sleeping position may also be a cause. Babies sleeping on their stomach side are more prone as they may suffer more difficulty in breathing. Those sleeping on soft surfaces and with their parents are also at risk. [ii]
