How to Prepare Your Child for Their First Visit to the Dentist

Saturday, March 05, 2016

That dreaded time may be approaching you and your little one. It may soon be the moment that your toddler is finally ready to see a dental hygienist or surgeon. All the other tantrums that you may have experienced until now may pale in comparison to this particular instance.

You can hardly blame your child. You, after all, are probably not exactly the biggest fan of your dental expert either. Yet the fact still remains that it is now time for your child to get their teeth looked at by a dentist for a checkup. All is not lost, however. There are still ways that you can prepare your little one for their big day.

How to Prepare Your Child for Their First Visit to the Dentist
Play Pretend

The first thing you should do to ease this process is to introduce your child to the concept of dentistry. The best way to do this is by playing a game. You can take on the role of dental surgeon and walk your little one through the process. This will make it less alien to them when they are finally taken to the clinic. Make the game as fun as possible and maybe even give your child a sticker at the end. This will frame this particular experience as being positive for your child. They will go to the clinic with an open mind rather than being afraid.

Cartoons

With a little bit of research, you can find plenty of cartoon clips that will feature a trip to a dental hygienist. Use these to reinforce the idea of fun that you have already associated with dentistry. Use popular cartoon characters to detail what the experience at a clinic will feel like. Follow this up with a narrative for your child. Point out to things on the screen and tell them that they will likely see that during their own trip to the clinic.

Toys and Distractions

The best way to not instill any fear in your child is to distract them right up until they have to meet with the dental hygienist. You can do this with toys, coloring books, and stuffed animals. You should always remember to pack these things with you when you go to the clinic. This will ensure that your child does not feel nervous as they wait with you in the waiting room. They will be, instead, preoccupied with the toys that you have brought. It is common amongst adults as well to get worked up right before the big moment. The best way to prepare your child to meet with the dental surgeon is to keep them calm. They will walk into the exam room with a much more relaxed and open demeanor. This will make the whole process so much easier for all involved.

Going to the dentist with your child does not have to mean the end of the world. As a parent, you are in charge of framing this whole experience for them. This will affect how they view dental hygiene now as well as when they are much older. This is why you owe it to them to make it as positive and interesting as possible.

Say No To Ngilo with Sensodyne Toothpaste and Mouthwash

Sunday, June 07, 2015

Having sensitive teeth or pangigilo is a pain that can hinder precious little moments in our lives. I experience sensitive teeth or pangigilo most of the time because of underlying conditions of my teeth. Most of my teeth had undergone root canal procedure years ago and have veneers already. Since I'm a coffee lover, drinking my favorite caffeine fix hot or cold gives a feeling of "ouch" sensation. There's always a love-hate relationship because it's like yay for coffee and nyay for sensitivity.

I was invited by GSK last Friday to the launch of Say No to Ngilo Campaign. This event also paved way for the launch of their new product- Sensodyne Mouthwash. Yay! With this addition to the oral care regimen of people suffering from sensitive teeth or pangigilo, I'm sure that you and me will enjoy those great little moments with food, drinks, and the company of over loved ones. Read important facts below and what you should know about sensitive teeth or pangigilo plus win a trip to South Korea by joining Sensodyne's Great Little Moments campain :)

Here are the facts about sensitive teeth or pangigilo:

  • For 9 out of 10 Filipinos who suffer from sensitive teeth or pangingilo, “sensitive” is a bit of an understatement to describe the delicate condition of their teeth.
  • Sensitive teeth or pangigilo is characterized by a short, sharp, shooting pain, which many sufferers often choose to just endure, the discomfort caused by sensitive teeth may only last for a short period, but the emotional effects of missing out on those precious moments with your loved ones over food and drinks has a far longer impact.
  • Sensitive teeth occurs when the layer of enamel becomes thin and exposes the softer dentine underneath. This soft layer makes up the inner part of the tooth leading to the tooth’s nerve center and triggers the pain you feel.
  • Other things that can cause sensitive teeth are: brushing too hard or using a hard bristled toothbrush, teeth grinding, gingivitis (gum disease), receding gums.
  • Sensitive teeth or pangigilo can also be an early warning sign of a more serious dental problem according to Dr. Rannier Reyes of the Philippine Periodontal Society.

Last year, GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Sensodyne, the #1 sensitivity toothpaste in the Philippines which is also recommended by dentists, spearheaded the “Say No to Ngilo” advocacy where dentists, consumers and Sensodyne came together to enjoin everyone to heed the call to take action to no longer endure the discomfort of pangingilo.

In 2015, GSK and Sensodyne takes the advocacy a notch higher with the launch of “Great Little Moments” digital campaign which encourages Filipinos not only to “Say No to Ngilo,” but also share their experiences after converting to Sensodyne and how they are able to fully enjoy their great little moments sensitivity-free.

“With the start of the summer season, everyone is now looking for someplace or something cool, be it at the beach, the pool or even just a quick respite from the heat with some cold drinks or a cone of ice cream, but if you have sensitive teeth, enjoying those cold treats can be a bit tricky,” says Heather Pelier, Incoming Consumer Healthcare General Manager, GSK Philippines. “But it’s more than just missing out on food. When you choose to just endure the pain, you do it at the expense of fully enjoying experiences and social occasions that go along with it, making you miss out on those great little moments with your loved ones,” Pelier added.
This campaign encourages consumers to share their “Great Little Moments” in the Sensodyne Philippines website (www.sensodyne.com.ph) by uploading a photo of a moment (eg. sipping hot chocolate, eating halo-halo, etc.) they can now fully enjoy because they are pangingilo-free. Winners of the contest will win a trip for two to South Korea.

Sensodyne brand ambassador, Luis Manzano shared to us the ugly truth about sensitive teeth and pangigilo. He said this sudden pain can ruin the mood, stop you for being excited on tasting new food that is sweet or cold. There are precious little moments that are totally affected because of that sudden pain.

Heather Pelier adds, “Our message is simple, there is no need for sensitivity to impact anyone’s life. Making a simple change to one’s oral care regimen will make a real difference. Now that Sensodyne has reached out to more Filipinos who used to just endure the pain, we want to encourage them to tell their stories now that they can enjoy their favorite food and drinks and fully enjoy the eating moments with their family and friends without fear of pangingilo.”

With the launch of the new campaign, GSK is introducing the new Sensodyne Mouthwash to complement its toothpaste and complete its expert sensitivity regimen to help consumers put an end to teeth sensitivity.

Brushing your teeth can be fun and exciting with CLIO Toothbrush. I received a box full of colorful toothbrushes weeks ago. I'm not familiar with the brand CLIO but when I saw the word and logo of Cleene printed outside the box, I've already presumed that Cleene (makers of cotton balls) partnered with CLIO to give Filipinos enhanced dental solution.

Cleene enters a new partnership with CLIO, a known toothbrush brand in Korea to deliver better dental health care to Filipinos.

Cleene, a top personal care brand in the Philippines, introduces a new line of toothbrushes under the Cleene CLIO brand. So what makes the Cleene CLIO brand unique from the competition brand of toothbrushes in the market today? Well, aside from the fact that it is a Korean brand (Filipinos love anything Korean, right?) this toothbrushes boast the following properties:

  • Breakthrough combination of tapered and rounded bristles. This technology delivers an enhanced dental solution that provides a more comfortable and effective brushing experience.
  • Its tapered bristles penetrate deeply between the teeth and gums for thorough cleaning.
  • This is combined with rounded bristles that effectively remove plaque while preventing tooth and gum damage that can be caused by normal non-rounded bristles.
Feature: Cleene CLIO Toothbrush
Cleene CLIO’s advanced technology provides world-class dental solution that is priced affordably. It features a complete line of toothbrushes for all ages to serve more Filipinos.

CLIO is a market leader in oral care in South Korea and has been dedicated to toothbrush research for more than two decades. It has one of the world’s most advanced, fully automated toothbrush manufacturing systems.

Product Review: Himalaya Herbals Complete Care Herbal Toothpaste

Saturday, September 06, 2014

Hi dearies! Today I'm going to share my thoughts on my first toothpaste review. Ya'll know that I have a yellowish teeth, it's from the combination of genes and the love for coffee and tea. The stains from these drinks are stubborn and sometimes those problems are solved only by teeth experts. Since the only solution to whiten my teeth is by replacing my old veneer and or have a laser teeth whitening, I will not expect regular toothpaste and whitening toothpaste to make magic on the whitening department.

All I know right now is that regular toothpastes will keep my gums healthy, make my teeth stronger and prevent other problems like plaque and bad breath to arise. Have you tried using herbal toothpaste before? I've seen Himalaya Herbals Complete Care Herbal Toothpaste in supermarket shelves before and I was a bit hesitant to try it because it's herbal and in my opinion it will produce less foam while brushing. To know more about the product information and my honest to goodness review, click CONTINUE READING please :)

Product Review: Swish Mouthwash Mangosteen Mint

Friday, March 21, 2014

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Are you ready to travel this summer season? I'm sure everyone's excited to go to their summer escapades or to the dream destination that you have planned months ago. But first, let me tell you that travelling should not give you headaches and troubles from worrying too much about the things you need to bring with you. I always believe in travelling light- bringing essentials that will make your baggage fuss free. I've heard of so many horror travel stories from my friends and relatives and I must admit that I also experienced that before. The worst things do really happen like squirting shampoo, lotion or toothpaste inside your bag staining your clothes, broken makeup (my own experience) and spilling liquid like cologne and mouthwash!

And because I mentioned mouthwash, I'm happy that there are travel friendly sized mouthwash now being sold in the market today. No more pain in transferring them in small bottles in order to bring them with me every time I travel to provinces or simply to meetings or events. Pocket friendly mouthwash is a life saver! So when Swish sent me those cute little breath fresher, aside from the size which is totally adorbs , they have two exciting flavors to choose from. I already tried cinnamon from another brand of mouthwash so this time and very timely for summer is the mangosteen mint flavor. Mangosteen is a tropical fruit native to us and I've been hearing a lot of positive effects of this fruit to our health. Hmm, looks like using this mouthwash will give me another kind of experience specially on my next travel adventure this summer! I already tried this flavor before bringing it to my next backpack adventure, if you wanna know my thoughts click CONTINUE READING to see my review of this flavor and why I highly recommend this product :)
