Restore Kids' Energy with Potatoes USA

My son loves fries and this gives him energy especially in times that he needs a quick snack in between school programs. This is great since potatoes are a good source of carbohydrates. However, we always find alternative ways to prepare his favorite veggie so he won’t get used to eating it just fried.

As parents, we need to make sure that our kids are getting healthy and staying fit throughout the school year and I’m sharing here with you the reasons why you should start adding more potatoes in your kid’s diet.

Potatoes are good for me and you!
  • Potatoes are packed with vitamin C (boosts immunity), vitamin B6 (improves cognitive function) and potassium (important for healthy growth and building muscles).
  • They are filled with “quality carbs” that help optimize mental and physical performance. Potatoes are also naturally fat-, sodium- and cholesterol-free.
  • There are several other ways to serve potatoes that makes it a healthy alternative to the fried ones. There are potato-based soups, salads, main dishes, and even sweet and savory desserts that use potatoes.
  • There are so many recipes that you can do with a potato. It can be a substitute ingredient to make native delicacies or the main star in an international cuisine. Fret not because recipes are available online at PotatoGoodness.com/recipes

Potatoes USA

An organization that has thankfully brought US frozen, US tablestock and US dehydrated potatoes to our shores, offers a lot of options for potato meals.

Chef Kristine Lotilla conducted the workshop that was attended by middle school students of The Raya School. The students are members of the school's Culinary Club.

They recently visited the culinary club of The Raya School in Fairview, Quezon City to demonstrate the potato’s versatility. After a session on the potato’s benefits, and a preparation and cooking demo, the students were challenged to try their own potato dishes at home. If the kids can do it, so can you.

It's in the Powerful Potato!

Baking, roasting or mixing potatoes with low-calorie ingredients and flavorings makes a potato a super food for the whole family. My mama would always tell me to keep the potatoes’ skin on for more nutrients. Preparing and portioning your potatoes are a step towards healthier and happier kids.

Chef Kristine and the students prepared two recipes: Broccoli Cheddar Potato Puffs and Chocolate Mashed Potato Truffles.

It's time to teach kids that there is a big difference between good and bad carbohydrates. So instead of snacking on cookies and salty pretzels, give your kids healthy potato dishes. Eating the right amount will help make their bodies fit and strong. Potatoes provides energy and potassium that growing kids need to power performance throughout the school day.
