Fireproof Your Home This Summer Season

Wednesday, March 08, 2017

The summer season is just around the corner, I can't believe that it's March already. Everyone's excited to hit the beach and the kids are busy planning how to spend their vacation wisely. This month is also dubbed as the Fire Prevention Month here in the Philippines because most cases of fire-related accidents are relatively high during this season.

In celebration of the Fire Prevention Month, I'm happy to share with you that my blog has been chosen by Solane, the country's leading LPG solutions provider, to share some tips on how to keep our homes safe.

Fireproof Your Home This Summer Season

Our family's safety is very important and during summer, we should take extra precautions inside and outside our homes. We should be vigilant and we should fireproof our homes by following tips on how to prevent fires during the summer season. Remember that "prevention is always better that cure." Here are 5 simple tips on how to fireproof your home.

1. Always Keep Flammable Items Out of Children's Reach

If you have toddlers at home, always remember to keep the matches, lighters, candles, gas lamps, and other flammable materials away from children's reach. Children at this age don't have control of things they accidentally touch.

2. Ensure Good Housekeeping

Dispose unused combustible materials like paper, magazines, and litter that can easily catch fire. Don't keep flammable substances like gasoline, paint, and thinner inside your house.

3. Know the Electricity Basics Inside Your Home

Make sure not to overload circuits by unplugging all electrical appliances when not in use. Regularly check all electrical installations and replace appliances with exposed wires.

4. Make Your Kitchen Safe at All Times

A fire extinguisher must be present in the kitchen at all times. Don't leave the stove open and unattended while cooking. When it comes to LPG, Solane Hatid Bahay service ensures safety with their free 7-point safety check, an exclusive service provided to all Solane LPG home delivery customers. Moreover, with Solane’s Timbang challenge service and safety cap and seal, product quality is assured.

5. Have a First Aid Kit and a List of Emergency Hotlines Handy

Like in any other situations, a first aid kit at home is a must and should be accessible at all times. This should include burn remedies like burn ointment, anti-bacterial soap, gauze bandage, burn gel, and antibiotics. Furthermore, emergency hotlines such as the Bureau of Fire and Philippine National Police should be beside the landline or stored in your mobile phones.

My mother always tells me: “It's better to be robbed than to get your house caught on fire.” I know both are tragic incidents, but the latter will leave you nothing. Kaya Dapat Lang Safe!
